I just think that some people tend to focus more on driving 350 miles each way to a brewery only release low bottle release, when the brewery 1 block away from them is releasing a draft only, non bottled, IPA or porter.. Which is actually a lower bottle count

We don't get Whales here, and even ltd stuff like BA Sexual Chocolate I refuse to stand in line over nite. Not happening, not worth the time or money.

All of this reminds me of the old ad slogan: "I'd walk a mile for a Camel." But in this case, I have. I have driven 5 hours for Heady Topper but I did pick up 2.5 cases. But as far as $50 bottles go, I'll pass. I'd rather buy $50 of something I can drink on a regular basis than one bottle of something I may not have the palate or appreciation for. Sure, I'd like to get a hold of every IPA or DIPA from every brewer in CA that isn't available here in NY and I'm working on it slowly but surely by asking friends who are traveling to bring some back. But wait in line or chase beer? I don't think so. I already have a job and a life.

I also wonder how many people show up thinking its actually a keg of "rare BCBS" and not just regular

I don't understand why so many people get bothered (to the point of posting threads about it) by others spending excess time/money/etc on "rare" beer. Does it affect you in any way? Does it make your shelf beer taste like shit? Everybody is so concerned with how other people are "doing beer" and I don't get why.

I don't care that people chase down rare beer or pay a shit load of money for what they drink. It's their time and money.

I get annoyed by the "if you want that $30 bomber, why don't you just get it?" attitude that some of them have.

Exactly this. Threads like this annoy me... they serve no purpose, and are plain incorrect. People get excited about 'low bottle count' releases because they ARE special, and usually time consuming and expensive to make. Just because someone goes ISO a rare beer, doesn't mean that they neglect the easy to find, solid offerings they can find locally. It's quite an assumption to say that's all they care about.

Rare beer is rare. Not many people get to buy it. Therefore, buying rare beer is not "all the rage".

Perhaps the OP has a few friends who buy rare beer and are quite proud of their purchases.

Weren't you just ISO: BA Behemoth? And offering 4+ bottles that are infinitely better?

Poorly thought-out rant is poorly thought-out.

If people want to spend their money on it, than that must be what they want and it is worth it to them. What I don't get is when people care about how much money other people spend on beer.

I paid $50 for a 12 oz. bottle of Westy 12, and I don't care if you think that's ridiculous. I'm sure I'll do it again with another beer someday, too.

That's because Hill Farmstead's beers are a million miles better than that local brewery (in my case, Single Cut) taking advantage of the Craft Beer wave and putting out less-than-mediocre beer.

Just because its limited doesn't mean its good. You're right. But on the other hand, just because it's limited doesn't mean its NOT good.

$46.67 would have been worth it, definitely not $50.

Don't feel sorry. Think of it like how far away it was and don't begrudge yourself the cost. It had to go a long damn way to get to you! From store to the truck to the road . . . to the road . . . to your door. =) You liked it right?

EVeryone does it different. Whether you agree with it or not just let it go.

If person A is content with sippin on their local fresh ipas and person B is only worried about slaying the latest whales then so be it. Why does it matter to either person how the other goes about their business. Each person finds what they are doing is exciting.
