If you can't land the PVW try one of the other variants, both were mind-blowing. If the PVW is actually better, I can't understand how.

Buffalo Trace Black Magick was incredible and is well worth seeking out, too.

Shane, Pappy BM gathers the minds that were blown by Buffalo Trace, puts them all together again and blows them a 2nd time!

Maybe someday I will know that feeling.

Pappy Black Magic and BT Black Magic taste nothing alike, with the Pappy being much better, imo.

haven't opened my Apple Brandy BM yet to compare but if it's as good as the AB BBVD then the BT Black Magic may be the worst of the 3 variants. and by worst I mean still fucking great!

Pappy and BT smell pretty similar IMO, but then you taste the Pappy BM and you're like OH. The barrel character is so much smoother and the chocolate just pops so much better than the BT. BT is still one of the best imperial stouts I've had, but the PVW BM is definitely the best one to date. Haven't had Rare yet, so we'll see how that goes in comparison when I have it soon.

weird, I thought the chocolate was more forward in the BT version while the Pappy was smoother/creamier feeling

Enjoy Rare, its awesome. I wish they would do these again but thats just me being greedy.

Definitely got the smoother, creamier feeling, but maybe that smoother bourbon flavor allowed the chocolate flavors to come out for me. Who knows, great beers regardless.

Well based on my last couple FT posts a PVW BM, a BT BM, a BBPt5, and a BA Blackout all combined (4 for 1) won't land a Mornin Delight or KBBS, so I would say the 1:1 was the exception not the rule on the KBBS for PVW BM trade FWIW.

someone in my tasting group has had mornin delight and said BCBCS crushed it. i think its just the low bottle count. if thats the case hold on to your pappy, its as good as if not better than Rare.

hmmm, comparing a non ba coffee stout to a ba coffee stout. seems fair...
that said, I do think Mornin Delight is a tad over-hyped (still 1 of the 3 best coffee stouts I've ever had). not the case with KBBS though

I don't think MD or KBBS are worth trading for at this point. Seems everyone who wanted to trade them has, and now it's all the people who want to hold it for ransom (for the most part, I'm sure there's people out there that don't fall under this category). You can get a lot of enjoyment out of keeping your cellar from being obliterated as opposed to having 1 12 ounce beer lol.

I could see 2:1 based on bottle count.
should the Apple Brandy Black Magic trade 2:3 KBBS? KBBS has more bottles...

You would have to kill me before I would give up 2 pvw black magicks for almost any bottle at this point

Sometimes you are 100 percent true and its unwarranted. In the case of the PVW Black Magick its not. Its possibly the best stout I have ever had and I've had most of them. Of course this is my opinion, your mileage may vary, blah blah blah.

Point 1: Trade value for Black Magick - Low. Trade value for PVW Magick - Super goddamn high

Point 2: Unless people are doing these trials blind with the various stouts next to each other, all memories are subject to scrutiny because your mind is not as accurate as you want to believe. All sorts of quirks modify the experience of drinking a beer, including the experience of obtaining it and the rarity factor.
