When I was in there yesterday it sounded like they were trying to decide between $10 or $12, glad to see they went with the more reasonable price!

Any news from the WTC release? Has it sold out?

Definitely not sold out. They had 120 cases, and had sold about half of them at the 1/2 case limit when I left a little after 1. Barring some crazy closing-time rush, it should be around Monday and possibly beyond.

I'm very surprised. I knew the number of cases was low and figured mules would be in full effect

Not too much mule action from what I saw. With a 12 bottle can limit, not many seemed desperate for more. That said, there was definitely a line out the door when I got there right at 11, and everyone seemed to be buying their limits. I'm sure they sold close to 1000 cans in a single 4-hour day, which is quite a lot.

You never know when or if the hype train will get behind any particular beer, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see the demand for WTC take off once more people get the chance to try it and review it. It's probably the sourest and tastiest Berlinerweiss I've ever had, and with the sour craze continuing to heat up...

Plenty left. Double dry hopped Gandhi on cask was an awesome treat too.

Any CT/Nebco local (or semi-local) want to grab a 4 pack of WTC and hang on to it for an IP trade the next time I get down to CT (some time this summer)? Would be a major plus if you also had any of the barrel aged Nebco releases from this year. Send a note and we can work something out. Have access to lots of MA/other New England goodies.

Not to be too obnoxious, but I think the hype train is fairly easy to predict: the hoppier and higher alcohol a beer, the more hype it gets from the general population. A 3.4% ABV beer that is $10 / 4 pack isn't an easy sell to people who are only marginally interested in beer.

The line before opening was pretty subdued, maybe 10-15 people in line around 10:50, only about double that by the time they opened. They were very good at moving the line quickly, even though it wasn't particularly a big deal this time around.

Hey Doc, 30 people in line at opening for a new brew ain`t too shabby. And seeing as how you were one of the people there prior to opening to buy a berliner (100+cases), perhaps your calculation is a bit off.

When I think of the hype train, I'm not thinking of "the general population" - I'm thinking of the beer nerds nerdy enough to trade, and it's definitely not outside the realm of possibility that there could be considerable interest for a brew like WTC - Southampton Berliner Weisse was only 2% and it's one of the whitest of whales.

Your point about high ABV and IBU correlating with hype is well taken, but low pH is becoming an increasingly good indicator as well. Only time will tell.

I'm not saying it wasn't a good amount of people, far from it - I'd be surprised if the cans made it to the end of monday. However, compared to the hype surrounding the release of something like FBD, it was much more subdued. I'm not complaining, it makes no difference to me, I'm just pointing it out.

More subdued than FBD batch 2, yes. WTC's initial release was far more of an event than the first release of FBD, though. It took a bunch of hugely positive reviews from the first batch to get people to pay attention and swamp the place for the rerelease.

Went to the brewery for my lunch break and they still had some four packs of Weiss Trash available.

Also Hag, 668, and Galaxy on for growler fills.

Weiss Trash still around as of 2:30, but the stack was looking pretty short.
