Maybe next time do a side-by-side rather than back-to-back? I've only had Heady one time, but it struck me as a tongue-scouring hop bomb with none of the balance, refinement, or elegance of Pliny. But I could be wrong. I'd love to have the chance to try it again, and even more I want to do a head-to-head between Pliny and Heady. Someday.

I live in Seattle and almost never venture south of the Duwamish, let alone Clark County. Thanks anyway.

It's great stuff. I think it will be coming up your way soon - they are expanding distribution along with moving and adding a tap room.

Is there anything else local to pair with metal?

A few weeks ago our good friends threw a 'Night of World Class Wines' for me and my wife- we quaffed over $1000 worth of amazing wine from their cellar- Chateau d'Yquem, Chateau Haut Brion, Corra etc etc...

As thanks, tonight was my reciprocal attempt to repay the honor with my 'Night of World Class Beers', with fantastic food pairings provided by my wife...

    We started with:

2013 Cantillon Kriek 100% Lambic Bio, paired with Truffle pate with blackberries on Melba toast...

    ...and then:

    2013 Cantillon Rose De Gambrinus.

    Next up:

2013 Sucaba, paired with Black Mission Figs stuffed with Stilton, wrapped in prosciutto...

    Followed by:

2012 Boulevard Saison Brett, paired with a Chimay cheese tart and arugula, pear and walnut salad...

..and when the Boulevard ran out, we switched to:

    2013 Logsdon Seizoen Bretta...

    Next course:

2012 Deschutes The Abyss, paired with traditional English sausages braised in stout with stout mustard...

    Then for dessert:

2013 Founders KBS, paired with stout chocolate mousse with oatmeal and chocolate cookies...

But we weren't done yet, for a nightcap we cracked:

2013 Three Floyds Dark Lord (which defies the very art of food pairing!)

And then, although it was a bit redundant by now, (and how the hell can you follow DL?!) we finished with:

    Southern Tier Choklat...

The best pairings for me? KBS and chocolate mousse- OMFG, closely followed by the Sucaba and stuffed figs...

    An epic night all round.

    Now, get a bucket...

Nice Berliner. Should have bought a 6 pack instead of a single.

Pretty good barleywine. Never had this fresh so I can't compare it but the booze is barely there. Surprised since it's 13%. I'm drinking this one alone. Wish me luck.

Hey man, at least you and I can take comfort in knowing that we can drink Boneyards IPAs pretty much whenever we want. I've had Pliny (obviously) and heady, but I can honestly say that I prefer Hop Venom, Notorious, and Nefarious over Pliny and HT.
