Just getting into the craft scene and was wondering who has the best selection down here in south Florida. I actually live in Margate so I have been hitting up the Whole Foods in Coral Springs but their selection is pretty limited. Hit the total wine in Boca last week and they have tons any other places I shouldbe checking out?
Well, there are also Total Wine and Whole Foods locations in Fort Lauderdale, and they tend to have good selections, although special releases get sold out very quickly. Sometimes you can find gems laying around, if you get lucky, at various ABC locations. Another place to check out is Riverside Market in Fort Lauderdale.
Moonshine is in Margate as is a decent little spot. Definitely do your due diligence in checking bottle dates, though. But the mom and son in charge are super nice, and the son knows craft beer pretty darn well. Crown Wine and the ABC Store off University Drive in Coral Springs sometimes have decent stuff. You just have to check. I think that the Whole Foods in Coral Springs is awful.
I was just in Springs 2 weeks ago. That whole foods has the smallest craft beer selection I've found in any Whole Foods. I did find some decent stuff at the ABC store that Bluecane mentioned on University, however all of thier Stone Bombers were out of date from March. I stopped in 2 Publixs' while down there and found plenty Cigar City 6 packs (Eagle Trace Publix and the Fancy Publix across the street from the Galleria Mall in Lauderdale). World of Beer in Cocunut Creek had plenty of beers on tap and I just missed the Funky Budda tap takeover by a day. That place is good to try new brews but they are far overpriced.
I ended up hitting Moonshine in Margate last night, their selection is ok, but everything is already in a cooler and they had some bombers that weren't in the cooler but weren't in "inventory" so they couldn't sell them yet. Going to be over on Federal tomorrow so going to check out the Whole Foods in Ft Lauderdale, will probably be sticking with Total Wine it looks like.
Yeah, that definitely happens at Moonshine. If you're going to the Ft. Lauderdale Total Wine, then definitely check out the Crown Wine & Spirits on the other side of 17th street. It's literally right there. Total Wine will have a better overall selection, but Crown Wine (at least ~1 year ago) typically had a few Cigar City seasonal bombers and such. They're so close by that you might as well hit both.
