I just had a Matt 2010 and the under-carbonation really made it suffer. I have multiple AftW and they have delivered every time.

You mean to tell me that that beer could have actually tasted even better? :grimacing:

There has been some bottle variation. Matt pretty much ranges from really damn good to incredibly amazing. Side effects include inability to speak, diabetes, and premature ejaculation.

Strange, I have never had an undercarbonationed 2010 Matt. 2009 was dreadfully flat, but I find the level in 2010 to be just about perfect.

It was utterly flat, to be quite honest. It showed a few bubbles on the pour, but they were not there when drinking. No surprises considering the source. It tasted very nice and complex, but with next to no body, I was underwhelmed. I will try again, mind you.

I got a few bottles of AftW for things like Fou Foune and Bells BA9K. I do have a few left, but the only thing I can think of off-hand that I'd trade it for is CFH '12.

Gotcha. I must have gotten one of the better bottles!

I have never had an undercarbed Matt. I can certainly believe that they do exist though.

I think the real magic is how well they are able to craft old ales and similar styles. The barrel aging goes well with that, but the fact that they can create such a magnificent flavor profile in the base beer Adam, fresh and aged, is incredible.

Think you might have just gotten unlucky with a bad bottle, i opened a 2010 a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing.

To the OP, be prepared to trade much more than a BB4D for it. You may get lucky and find someone generous enough to hand over an AftW for a DL+ but in my experience the AftW is one of the harder 'non-whale' 12 oz. bottles to get. I've traded a CCB Leon for one, but this bottle usually goes for above $4$. That being said, it's totally worth it!

All this talk about is making me want one lol. I've had 2. The first I had tasted really great, lots of leather. The second, well not so much. Infact both me and my buddy preferred cherry Adam to it as we did a side by side. However this bottle was very soy saucy. Almost makes me wonder if somebody drank some out of it and filled it back up with soy sauce (and not the sodium free). I've heard of people recalling bottles, do you think this was the case or were some just more soy sauce forward than others?

We did this with '12 Cherry Adam and '11 AftW and also preferred the Cherry, although I think it was like a tenth of a point difference on my reviews.

ok I cant take it anymore!!!! im not sure if this will work but here it goes.
once and after OP is taken care of!

ISO: Aftw FT: Manual labor (im out of beer, out of money, and between jobs :slight_frown:).

I have a lot of free time on my hands and will be sober so the ideal candidate would have lots of reviews to log. You could mail me the beer with your reviews and I will type them up for you
