What a rip off. You can order them from BIAB or Etre for much much cheaper, even with the crazy shipping. I got a Westy 8 on my last order for 8 Euro, and it ended up being something like 12 - 13 Euro after shipping with one full box from Etre.

300%+ markup on what they paid for it (if they even ordered 'direct from Belgium'), not too shabby. Too bad you have to be friends with their page to comment otherwise we could have some fun with this one. :sunglasses:

    I did... :grinning:

And yeah, it's pretty crazy. WF had 12 yesterday, but they were selling it $14 per bottle.

So this store is selling them at over 6 times! the price.

"West Hempstead BeverageYes it it's pricey at $100 a bottle. The westvleteren Trappist quad we have from Belgium is different than the one you are speaking of Michael Taub That package was made for America. This beer is coming straight from the Belgium brewery."

So the LACK of a label on the back and a different cap means the mark up is reasonable... Yep.

How can it come direct from the brewery? The monks won't sell beers for resale, only to consume. They have been pretty public about the fact that this kind of profiteering goes against their entire purpose.

Someone should report this to them. Maybe they can send a cease and desist or at least blackball the owners of this shop

Due to the special release of Westy12 to most of the US, would it technically be legal (not arguing ethics) to sell the beer brought back from Belgium since it's now technically in the distribution zone?

If it's unlabeled no. And unless the beer shop is buying it from a distributor it would also be illegal. (in PA anyway)

I can't find how you could. I assume they only have a phone because I'm sure they get contacted way too much already.

And yeah, good point. It should be illegal for them to sell this beer without a label.

Can we set up some sort of sting operation where we photograph the people who do buy bottles (let's be honest, I am sure they will be bought out) and shun them on a public forum?

I don't have issue with people who want to buy them, but instead, the seller.
