Pilsner Urquell just released a new video short, an A/V celebration of their beer and their heritage, basically their "anthem." I work with the team that put this together so I'm seriously proud of it.

I think anyone with even the most base level love of beer and the culture surrounding it will find something to dig in this vid.

    Czech it out:

Thats a pretty interesting piece, visually. I want more of the endearing broken english ramblings about socially drinking, though. It got me pumped up to have a beer after work.

I love those dimpled beer mugs. I need to get one or two of those.

I like to think Pilsner Urquell must taste better in its homeland than it does here...similar to Guinness.

But that reminds me, didn't they implement some new freshness campaign with new shipping methods to ensure the beer got to the states much quicker/fresher? I haven't had this beer in a while... has anyone noticed a difference?

I'm not big on Pilsners, but hadn't tried a PU in years, saw the new freshness box and thought, 'time to revisit'. I ended up drinking the entire sixer, it's terrific fresh, they done good.

If you like Pilsners, it's fantastic. I got a 4 pack of tallboys for FIVE DOLLARS, and it was absolutely perfect for the hot day we were having.

Also, will watch this when I get home. Very excited.

Drank through a freebie case a few weeks back, it was quite good and I made quick work of it. I'd pay for this again.

“I like to think Pilsner Urquell must taste better in its homeland than it does here...” I really want to think the same thing! In my opinion, the Pilsner Urquell we get here is just an OK beer.

“But that reminds me, didn't they implement some new freshness campaign with new shipping methods to ensure the beer got to the states much quicker/fresher? I haven't had this beer in a while... has anyone noticed a difference?” Yes, Pilnser Urquell implemented a “Freshness Initiative” just as you described: faster shipping across the Atlantic and the beer is kept cold until it reaches a certain point of the distribution chain (the retailer?).I had a six-pack of the ‘new’ Freshness Initiative Pilsner Urquell in 2012. To my palate it tasted just like the Pilsner Urquell beers I have had in the past. Maybe I was always ‘lucky’ in not buying too old or too beat up Pilsner Urquell in the past?

One of my theories (and I have not been able to confirm it) is that perhaps Pilsner Urquell ‘over’ pasteurizes the beers that are intended for shipment to the US? Maybe the beer is just ‘cooked’ too much which impacts the flavor of Pilsner Urquell?

    Cheers!

Urquell tastes nothing like Guinness, here or there -- or Ireland. :grinning:
I compared some of the new "fresh" bottles to the cans that have been out for a while. Yeah, they've blocked the light from skunking the beer in the green bottles, but it only proved that the cans worked well -- they were always good.

Having it at the Czech embassy was about as close as I got. Do this every year for the EU Embassy open house tour in DC... still tastes as good as I remember

It was a good video and it sure made me want to grab a Pilsner Urquell or two. I found the video on beerpulse where I also found a new label for Pilsner Urquell which I thought was interesting:

I'm wondering whether this means that they will change the label world wide, or only in the US as a part of a national marketing push there. I have mixed feelings about the label, on the one hand the older (or at least older looking) typography looks really nice in my opinion, but the label also looks a bit cluttered. Maybe it will all come together nicely once it's wrapped around a can.

    Nice video.
I'm a fan of Pilsner Urquell. I pick it up frequently. But I had the unpasteurized version at a czech beer festival in Genova last summer and I must say it was much nicer than the bottled version.

Looks like it is one in a series of "retro" look can labels for Pilsner Urquell and probably just a temporary MillerCoors marketing moves.

Anything works for me if they can move more cans. I find them very seldom and when I do - like this Saturday - the "Best By" date was 07-11-13. 9 month old Pilsner Urquell? No thanks.

(Looks like MillerCoors' reps aren't very successful at convincing stores to keep the "Express Shipped Cold" Urquell in their refrigerated coolers, either, around my area :slight_frown: .)

The same is true for my area as well. It seems that the ‘weak link’ is the retailer; that is why I posted previously: “Pilsner Urquell implemented a “Freshness Initiative” just as you described: faster shipping across the Atlantic and the beer is kept cold until it reaches a certain point of the distribution chain (the retailer?).”

    Cheers!

P.S. “this Saturday - the "Best By" date was 07-11-13. 9 month old Pilsner Urquell?” That is why I typically buy US craft brewed lagers vs. imported European lagers; just too much old product out there (despite ‘initiatives’).:slight_frown:

I have never seen this in cans here in Ohio, I would buy the tall boys over the green bottles any day!
