I know this gets asked every few months..

I have been trying to track down Rare for awhile now and just recently put together a post that I thought might get it done.. Here it is http://beeradvocate.com/community/t...n-black-note-bomb-loons-more-iso-rare.101415/

I know nothing in there is super duper rare. But I'd let plp choose 4 bottles from that list for 1 Rare.. So can anyone let me know how far off I am as I would really like to land a rare.

The only bottles I haven't posted that I have but would be willing to deal as well would be

upland sour Reserve 2, upland raspberry, chocolate rain, blushing monk..

These are beers I would give up but don't really want to. so that is why I didn't include them in my original post.. Would any of these beers I didn't list seal the deal?

So anyone that has landed a rare in the last few months please Let me know what it took as this whale search is exhausting.

Just one guy's opinion, but most of the linked-to list seems to come up short on rarity (actual or just based on demand) and even at 4 bottles, it's basically $4$. I know MSRP was like $45, but the truth is that even around its release, many markets were charging $60-80+. At the minimum, "shelf" prices for Rare got to $80 pretty quickly in some areas.

I think it's probably just one of those cases of being able to get most of those beers for less.

Now, the 4 you listed in this post may have a chance, but it sounds like that's not a route you really want to go. Sorry I can't answer with an actual completed trade.

I traded out a Rare for a similarish list, and it took 8 choices for me to bite.

Yeah I had one deal almost completed which was 86$ total
    2L Abner - 26$
    Madness&Civilization - 10$
    Cheery rye - 20$
    10 Heady - 30$

I thought that was a decent amount of money for Rare but I might have to give up 100$ of beer for a rare it seems

I put out several offers for a Rare and finally got it done in January this year. Was pretty simple 3-for-1, with me shipping a 2008 Lou Pepe Gueuze, 2012 Fou' Foune and an Adam from the Wood.

Now that I'm seeing some of the offers that aren't getting done, starting to think I got pretty lucky with a generous trader.

$4$ goes out the window when you're talking about a beer that was released once had is very hard to come by, IMO.

Would a 2013 DL muerte do it? I guess we will find out.. Just posted in it.

50N has gone 1:1 with Rare a few times in recent weeks.

Another thing is that list reads like an eye chart. Lots of breweries, lots of styles, lots of vintages and after all that you give a vague "pick a few." You might have better luck if you pared it down to the most desirable stuff and were explicit about the quantity you were offering. Whenever I open an ISO that looks like that, I can't hit the back button fast enough.

About a year ago I traded a 2012 Kate, BCBVS, and Ithaca LeBlue for one. It was an in person trade with a guy I've met before. I don't have any reservations about that trade at all.

In fairness, Rare wasn't that hard to come by when it was released. It sat on the shelves longer than newer shelf releases, like CBS and Cherry Rye. It was just expensive.

I'll never see a Rare, every year the numbers diminish and with too much age comes decline. I had a 2007 bcbs and it was most definaty past prime, I lucked into a few 2008 recently and they were IMO had seen too much age as well, lost it at the finish a not quite the big beer I was expecting . Still have a 2009 lying around, but I'm starting to think bcbs is just fine young and hot .

    I traded mine for:
    2 X Fred Ftw
    2 x Bourbon Fred
    Oak Aged Bretta
    Parabola
    MOAS
    Abyss
    Upright Sole Comp BA 7

That's probably well over $100 worth of beer, some of it being pretty limited. I both parties were happy with the trade.

Everybody has their preferences... Remember though, the older the beer, the more important perfect storage conditions are. Those 70 degree closets will take their toll over time. I recently had a flawless 2007 BCBS, and 2009 is drinking like a champ. I haven't had Rare recently, but I see no reason why a well-stored Rare wouldn't be drinking beautifully. That said, you have no way of knowing how well somebody stored a beer, so it's probably not worth trading an arm and a leg...

To OP - It's not very easy to score a Rare with a shotgun approach like that. Tossing up stuff like Juliet, Doom, or Zhukov is really just muddying up the list with stuff that no Rare owner would ever move their beer for. Lots of eyes will glaze over... You're better off whittling down the list to the 5-6 most rare/desirable beers and just going for it. You're going to have to go way over $4$ on a beer like Rare if you can't match rarity.

Anyone think Rare would still go 1:3 with Beat B5 like it did when Beat was released?

Would and A&T snatch a Rare? If not, which side would have to add?
