600 slots, with 170 on the waiting list, so what, maybe 1000 people hitting the server? And that "overloaded" the server?

Maybe someone should host a "spill over" festival on, like Tuesday prior or Sunday after?? Hmmm??

All the people who were shut out in previous years started breweries so they could get tickets for GABF.

This was the funniest thing in the article.

“We probably spent three months developing some stuff we wanted to enter this year to kind of leave an impression. Unfortunately all those efforts are going to be enjoyed by our local customers.”

It's so "unfortunate" that the beer will have to go to the locals.

Sounds like Prairie was waitlisted, too, and I heard that Lost Abbey and a bunch of others are in the same boat. I obviously can't confirm, but I'll be really interested to see how this is handled.

Duane does great chit down there in the Springs. It's a shame he won't be at GABF (again) and it's a shame that Mike and Amanda Bristol won't be there, either. I poured with Jason (Trinity) for Bristol the first year Laughing Lab won gold.

It sounds like they used the same software for this that was used for NHC entries this year.

not surprised that this happened. It is a hint of what is to come for all the ticket buyers later this month. Get ready for more "server" issues in the future...total bullshit

I think you are right check this out:

    http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?topic=14908.0

While the user experience for the National Homebrew Competition may have seemed similar to the experience with registration for the National Homebrewers Conference, they in fact had different causes. The issue with the National Homebrewers Conference registration was an underestimation of our server capacity needs for conference registration, which led our web servers to crash. For the National Homebrew Competition, we greatly increased the server capacity, and the servers performed fine, but the registration software got bogged down under the strain of so many people trying to register at the same time. While we had conducted thorough testing of the registration system prior to launch, it was not tested under the kind of load we actually experienced when we launched registration. We were probably overconfident that the system would perform well because it is a modified version of a competition management system that has been used by hundreds of competitions over the last several years.
