Going to Waterbury on Aug 8, 9 (thurs. fri.) and need some suggestions please.
My wife and I are escaping for a quick two day trip and wanted to see the town, drink good beer(take some back to Ohio) and camp.
I know I want to visit the Alchemist (to take some heady home!) and hill farmstead (to try their stuff and bring some home), but other than those what stuff is a must try?
    Also:
    I need help:
Camping spot close to either Alchemist or town, what is the best place? Just looking to crash cheap and safe/clean.
    Help:
When to visit breweries to ensure I can return home with some beer to enjoy later.
    Help:
Best places in town to drink a wide variety.
    Help:
what else to do/see in town?

Thanks for the info! Sorry if you feel like you've answered these questions so many times before
    Jon

    1) There's a chance Heady Topper may be sold out by Thursday. Check their twitter feed on Wednesday night to see if they've run out. If not, then make sure you get there shortly after they open on Thursday. If they don't run out on Thursday, then there's a very high chance they'll run out on Friday.

    2) Others: Trapp Lagers in Stowe; Rock Art and Lost Nation is in Morrisville. Check out their web sites or BA listings to see if there's anything you may enjoy. If you're traveling outside of Waterbury and Greensboro (HF), then there's lots of other great breweries.

    3) I'm not sure about places to stay, there's a dozen recent threads about Waterbury lodging posted over the last couple of months

    4) Places to drink in Waterbury, Blackback Pub, Reservoir, and Prohibition Pig - all three walking distance (within a block)

I've posted this several times, and hope I'm not over posting it, but the majority of your answers can be found here: http://www.vtbeer.org/2013/06/19/vermonts-ipa-highway/

Lawson's Finest Liquids. You'll need to get to the Warren Store on August 8th - Lawson's deliveries are on Thursdays only, and Warren's the closest to Waterbury, and also gets the best selection. (EDIT: actually, Hunger Mt. Coop in Montpelier's closer, but Warren gets more bottles usually, I think).
    I'm not helpful here.
The Alchemist, as early as possible on Thursday the 8th. Heady is canned Monday through Wednesday, and it's always at risk of selling out after that. Given the new 2 case limits, I'd assume it should last through Friday, but you know what happens when you assume. They're open 11-7.

Hill Farmstead, anywhere between an hour to a half an hour before they open on a non-holiday weekday should probably be fine to get you in and out relatively quickly. They're open 12-5, and you'll get beer whenever you show up, but it will just take a lot longer if you show up at say, 12:30. Thursday would probably be better, but if you're trying to get Lawson's and Heady too, that's probably a lot to ask. Bring your own growlers - they will fill anything that's not clear, green, or dirty.
Blackback Pub and Flyshop has Hill Farmstead and Lawson's on most of the time. Prohibition Pig has Heady on draft, often/usually Hill Farmstead and/or Lawson's, and amazing bottles too (loons!).

    No problem.

I think this is correct. I also think Warren gets better/more selections. I haven't been to Hunger Mt Coop, but in Winooski they only ever get 1 Lawson's when it's delivered (not counting the Jack's Abby collab which they get lots of). I've seen 3 different Lawson's (or maybe 4) at Warren at one time (that was a while ago).

Drive past Stowe to the ski resort and take the gondola to the top for lunch. Also do the Alpine slide there.

If you do Stowe, I've heard good things about Lost Nation (I have not been been there)

For camping check out Smuggler's Notch State Park. I'm camping there the weekend before. All VT state parks are inexpensive and very clean. That is only about 30 minutes from Waterbury.

If looking for a quick meal, cant recommend Blue Stone Pizza enough. Great fresh tossed pizza, good tap selection and occasionally have HT cans. My wife and I go there everytime we go thru.
