Can you rate beer shops on here? Here's a good place for a review on their shop

No question about it. But my point is that it's quite a difficult situation, and it may not be clear which is the best choice. And it's possible that neither one is profitable. So, that's why I could see how a shop owner might "hate" KBS.

For sure, although no immediate solution comes to mind as long as the quantity distributed is so small.

Here's one: distribute to fewer states.

PROBLEM SOLVED, I ARE GENIUS. If anyone whines about it just tell them that all the stores hated it anyway, just doing them a favor.

Yeah, I'm not disputing your point, just trying to see it from a different perspective. Looking at the larger picture, I think beer stores and the beer world are far better off because beers like KBS are produced and marketed. These beers generate buzz and excitement, even if there are a lot of negative side effects too. It's a difficult situation to be sure, but so is having to decide how to spend all the money you just won in the lottery. There are far, far more difficult situations to be in, even in the First World. And profit is never guaranteed in any business venture.

I love KBS, BCBS, all those big beers that people go crazy for, but when it comes to that stuff I feel bad for the employees. I mean, yeah, it's their job to answer phones and questions and get the customers what they want, but it's gotta be incredibly frustrating for them. Especially the beer buyers. I'd hate to have to drop everything I was doing every ten minutes to answer the same questions on the phone over and over again.

At one of the smaller stores I frequent, the guy working actually said that he'll flat out tell someone on the phone he doesn't have something even if he does. He said it's not fair to his regulars to give it out to whale hunters that he'll probably never see again. He puts whatever he got behind the counter, and if someone he knows will want it comes in, he'll offer it up. It's a great system as far as I'm concerned.

And for the times that I go in looking for a KBS or BCBS and a store is out, I generally still shop around. Number one, I don't want to look like an asshole, and number two, the more business I give them, the better chance I have to get the rare stuff next time.

One of the bigger stores by me did that with CBS. When I went in to ask about it, they said their corporate office called and said to save it for the regulars. So I became a regular, and it's paid off.

How exactly does this guy know the person on the phone isn't one of his regulars? I'm a regular at a lot of stores and I also call/e-mail around about certain releases. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I guess he just doesn't want to deal with it over the phone. Saying that he has something might imply to someone that he'll hold it for him. It's probably just easier for him to not have to weed out the faithful from the unfaithful and wait until he sees a familiar face.

Inevitably this comes back to bite stores, especially when there is a good chance that one of the people he lies to could potentially be a good customer he'd normally sell the beer to.

Don't want to field calls? Don't post a number.

Don't want customers buying a product? Don't stock it.

I know of a couple of beer stores in my area that would be thrilled to get even just a six pack of KBS into their doors for sale.

I agree w/ Blanco, above. Maybe this guy doesn't like to deal with these calls, I also don't like having to get to work on time every day. But guess what. It's my job. People complain about entitlement on the buyer side, this speaks volumes about entitlement on the seller side. Anyone who lies or gives out misinformation is doing their customers a disservice. And their customers will justifiably take their business elsewhere.

I'd make a point to buy this beer every chance I got if it made it anywhere near my area. Love that it's in 12oz bottles, just the right size for a big thick barrel-aged stout.

As it is, I have to be satisfied with cases and cases of Abyss and Parabola.

    Iono, that's kinda weak sauce.

I'm generally a friendly guy, but I typically don't spend tons of time chatting up the employees at my local stores. There's a store I go into a few times a month -- I know this doesn't make me a super-frequent customer -- and I would bet those guys don't know me from a whole in the whole. They're all nice and helpful, and we have the occasional chat, but there are probably 8-10 different rotating employees.

Could someone get jobbed in such a situation? Definitely. Is it fair? Not sure, but it certainly doesn't seem the most fair.

I mean, I'm happy you get the chance to try it, and it's crazy that others haven't snatched it up. But, what was the point of this thread other than "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!"? Forgive me if I'm missing something...

Nothing wrong with sharing a good find, it just shows that one can get lucky sometimes.
