I have a friend coming up from Ft Worth to visit me here in KY and she is going to get me whatever I want from the Total Wine store down there. Suggestions? What is around down there in Texas that you recommend? Any hard to find beers currently available?

    What styles do you like?

Jester King Salt Lick (a slightly smoky/citrusy saison - I really like it) would be a worthy grab as far as seasonals go. I've only had one Martin House beer, but have heard good things about their Day Break.

Lakewood Temptress is a great imperial milk stout.

i dont know exactly what you get there, but there is a few i can recommend.
    IPA
    - Deep Ellum IPA
    - Karbach Hop Delusion
    - St Arnold Endeavour
    - FW Union Jack
    - FW Double Jack

    Sours
    - Jester King Boxer's Revenge

    Stouts
    - Southern Star Buried Hatchet

as far as barrel aged stouts, any that we get or made here, dont stay on the shelf long enough to gather the first speck of dust, if they even see the shelf at all.

limited release stuff is pretty much the same story. w

what makes it harder is you needing it in bottles, we can get these on draft easier sometimes.

this list would be bigger if you were coming here and could include draft only beers. many good texas breweries are still young and are still draft only or just have chose not to package yet.

I'll tell you right now that FW Union Jack is very hard to find fresh down here. I would though recommend Hops and Grain Zoe and Pale Dog. Those are both delicious locals IMO.

No they are from Hops and Grain. Also, Rahr is not that great of a brewery tour to me. It's always super crowded and their beer is not very good IMO.

I would recommend Martin House if you are going to one.

This is true about FW UJ. I got a 6 pack of it about a month ago and it was already 3 months old. Houston hasn't even started getting FW yet. This is bs.

Zoe is an incredible beer. I haven't tried pale dog yet, but I am expecting to like it just as much. I didn't recommend those because he didn't say pale ales or lagers.

I just sold my house in Grogans Mill. All my friends and family are in KY, but I defiantly miss the Woodlands.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

I will try the H&G alteration. I've never had anything from them before.
