Long time lurker, first time poster...

When it comes to west coast breweries discussed on this site, it seems like all the love goes to Stone, FW, Ballast Point, Lagunitas, etc...everyone except Green Flash and I don't get it.

Is it because they have just ordinary looking labels? Is it cause they don't come out with multiple overpriced special releases throughout the year? Lets take a look...

    -Large distribution-CHECK

-Good variety of styles well done-CHECK

-A 100 rated beer on BA (West Coast IPA)-CHECK

    -An awesome DIPA (Palate Wrecker)-CHECK

    -Reasonable prices ($8.99/4 pack usually)-CHECK

So what gives? Why don't these guys get the recognition on these boards that they deserve?

My guess is that they don't get a lot of forum press because they don't have those ultra flashy releases. Kind of like Sierra Nevada - solid West Coast brewery with many of those criteria that you listed but they don't get much press other than "beers that got me into craft", "best affordable/widely offered beer", etc.

However, all you need to do is look at the ratings of Green Flash beers to know that many of us on BA do indeed love them.

The last time I heard from/about them was when all that buzz was surrounding Palate Wrecker. They are a great brewery, yes, but they don't churn out new, exciting, "buzzworthy" beers into their general distribution network like some of their West coast competitors. The current trend seems to be just that, in making as many new, crazy beers as you can, in collaboration with this brewery or that, and they seem to stay under the radar in that respect. At least that's what it seems like out here in Michigan.

I love green flash, but in ma 4pks run on average $12.99 and tend to collect dust. I drink most of my west coast on draft.

I'm a big fan of Green Flash...the thing to remember is that their brews previously came in 6-packs. One day they said costs made it necessary to cut down to 4 packs, but the price stayed pretty much the same.

Is $8.99 for a 4 pack of West Coast IPA really reasonable when I can get a sixer of Sculpin in bottles for $9.99??

I guess BAs realized that there are AMAZING brews out there in 6 packs for about 9 or 10 bucks that are as good or better than Green Flash...

So that being said, it comes down to value...at $9 a 4 pack we aren't getting value. Yes they make great beer, but we vote with our wallets more often than not.

You are right, I run a shop here in Chicago and I can't give the stuff away. They make awesome beer, but it does not follow the hype train, and doesn't appeal to those that don't know much about beer. It sure is a shame.

I usually pass because often times the beer is very old in my area and kind of pricey for a 4 pack. Fresh West Coast IPA is very good and I liked the Double Stout a lot too. That being said, I went to grab a 4 pack of Hop Head Red the other day having never tried it before and it was bottled in October of 2012 so I passed. Ended up grabbing a 12 pack of SNPA cans, canned three weeks ago, for just two bucks more. A 4 pack of WC IPA runs about 10-12 bucks in my area, way over priced considering I can get a sixer of any Lagunitas brew for the same price.

West Coast beers and brewers just don't stack up to the likes of FFF and Founders and others. My guess is they lose their hype in the midst of other Cali brewers that are constantly shoving their average beers down our throats.

Ya, they recently came to WI... There beers are priced at 7.99 a 4 pack where as Lagunitas is 7-9 a 6 and SN is 6-8 a 4 or 6. Not to mention the other great no coast and east coast breweries who have 6 packs... I only accept 4 packs if they are in the 16oz format, that is where green flash loses me. I would pick them up more in that case.

West Coast IPA is solid--love a fresh 4 pack--can't wait for them to start brewing in Virginia Beach so we can get more WCIPA on draft.

I've always liked West Coast and some of the more "limited" releases. The problem is their price point. Around Philly, West Coast usually runs between $11-13 for a 4, Palate Wrecker around $14.99 and Le Freak (when in season) is usually $10 for a bomber.

So you don't drink Central Waters? That stuff is too good for me to pass up.

We only get Sculpin 22oz bottles in MA and they run $10.99. I'd be all over $9.99 Sculpin 6pks.

All of CW BBA beer is in 12oz 4 pks. Not to mention Illumination. Same goes for all the New Glarus Thumbprints.

It's locally talked about for sure here in SoCal (at least with the people I know). It's also one of the more common brands I come across in grocery, liquor stores, etc. Awesome beers at great prices. WC IPA, Palate Wrecker, Hop Head Red, and Double Stout are all easily available and great prices. A staple in my fridge

Ya but those are special releases, I am ok with that I am not ok with grabbing a four pack of Green Flash IPA for more then a 6 pack of Lagunitas IPA and DIPA... BBS, PM, BBBW, Y2K, Wild Sour, Illumination, IIPA, Enigma, Berliner Weiss, Apple Ale I will gladly pay for 4 packs of!
