When doing a quick rating on "hads" we score the beer from 1 to 5. 4 is "outstanding". But if we extrapolate that to a 0-100 scale a 4 is the same as an 80. 80 "good" I believe. Personally, if I see a new beer on the shelf and it has a BA score of 80, I'm not gonna buy it without hearing from someone I know who's already tried it. So, when I rate a beer, how do I give an "outstanding" 4 without realizing it'sthe same as a "good" 80?

You're trying to compare to completely different scores. One is the individual member rating (1-5), the other is an overall proprietary score from all member ratings that's also weighted against all other qualifying beers. It's really not meant to be an extrapolation of the individual 1-5 rating.

Here's an example: If a beer gets 10 reviews and all members rate the beer with a 4.00, in theory that actually translates to a 90 "outstanding" ... more or less, as there'd be some system adjustment based on weight rank too.

I appreciate the reply. I try to use the language cues on the 1-5 when I rate beers. I understand the two systems are totally seperate and discrete, but my brain keeps wanting to correlate. Thanks for the explaination.

If you use the language cues, and allow the system to do the rest, then you're doing it right and everything pans out in the end.

    Cheers!
