Hey everybody! I've been following the BA forums for a while now but figured it was time to quit lurking and get in the game.

One of my dad's friends was talking to him about how he bought a case of his favorite beer, Toppling Goliath Assassin. So my dad mentions how I am very into craft been and his friend gives him a bottle to give to me! This is great as it is a beer I have never had and couldn't get in WA anyway without trading or something.

I figure since this guy is generously giving me what seems to be rated a great barrel-aged imperial stout I might as well bring him something in return (my folks live in MN and I will be heading back there in November). As this dude obviously likes barrel-aged imperial stouts my question is: what would be a good barrel-aged imperial stout to give him in return? I would like to get him something he would not have access to in MN.

    I would appreciate any suggestions!

Kentucky Dark Star should be coming out soon at Fremont. I would say that is a good option. Awesome of that dude to hook you up!

Since you get Firestone Walker in WA and he does not in MN, I would suggest Parabola if you can track one down.
You can go to seekabrew.com to see what other breweries you have access to that he does not.

So many good IPS's are seasonal and so hard to get anyway let alone limited release?

Just pick a bottle of your favorite, that you can find, and send it with good spirit,
I'm sure he will like the return gesture.

Well Abyss or Parabola would be good as well. But anything that shows thought for his kindness would be good.

Yeah Abyss was one of the first beers I thought of. Problem is I can't remember when it comes out. release might but be until after i head back to MN. Although I do have a 2011 and 2012 in my cellar.

North Coast's Old Rasputin is readily available and damn tasty.

Yeah and i stupidly passed up on the barrel-aged. Price tag was kinda steep on the one bottle I did find.

Yeah I do t remember off hand when it comes out but I think it's on the fall. You could give him a 2012.

Just FYI - Deschutes distro's to MN. Abyss is still a kick-butt beer and he may have even missed out on picking up a bottle when it was released (I heard I sold fast in MN) but your criteria included sending a beer he didn't had access to so I thought I'd bring it up.

    Cheers!

Some great suggestions here. Parabola might be hard to find now, and Abyss probably won't come out again until December or January. Not sure when KDS is expected (would love to know though), but that would be a great choice because it doesn't get distributed very far. Midnight Sun Berserker would be a good choice, but tough to find. Same w/ Ivan the Terrible. If Reuben's starts bottling their imperial oatmeal stout by then, that might be a good choice (though not barrel aged, it's great). Or what about Driftwood Singularity? Not sure if that's still around, but there aren't a whole lot of British Columbia barrel-aged imperial stouts, so that would be a unique choice.

It's not barrel aged but Alesmith Speedway is great and should be year-round for you. P. S. nice screen name.

Have your dad tell him that I'm really into craft beer, too!

In what part of Washington do you live? If Seattle area go to Bottlewerks and pull up seekabrew on your phone. Check to see what BA goodies they have that aren't readily available in MN. If not then see if any of your locals have a special release coming up between now and your trip.

Thanks, one of the best Will Ferrell SNL skits. Yeah, Speedway Stout is a pretty accessible beer around here.

I'm in the Tri-Cities (SE corner of the state). I'm going to be in Seattle in the fall so I will check out Bottlewerks. Thanks for the info!

Yeah I've seen Deschutes' stuff when I've been back in MN visiting but it was always basic stuff like Black Butte Porter and Inversion IPA. Didn't know if they would get much of the Abyss distribution.
