I don't see how it has anything to do with the transportation specifically to MN. They ship it to states around and farther from CA than MN and they all sell Stone cheaper.

so does anyone want to talk about the beer? or should we debate the finer points of the price of a luxury good that one can choose to buy or not to buy?

Sure, please talk about it. I didn't realize that anybody had seen it yet in MN. Where were you able to find it?

Hey everyone, I am a long-time lurker. Finally decided to "get involved". If anyone can report on location for this, that would be great. We all know how "expensive" Stone products are. Frankly I enjoyed RuinTen for the price. If we want to complain about overpriced beers people tend to like, lets talk about the Woodcut series. But for this discussion, i'd love to hear if anyone has found this in the Twin Cities.

I talked to the buyer down at the Haskells in bloomington, and they said they were on a secondary distribution, so it wouldnt be first-week.

I have reached out to a few of the stores I frequent, and they are saying "Next Week" without any specificity.

Four Firkins, France 44 for sure. Firkins guys said they expect "enough to put it on their facebook/twitter" so I read that as "We will have a few cases". I once had someone there tell me they do not share their selections if they have less than 2 cases.

For price comparison purposes (as well as the opportunity for me to go neener-neener-boo-boo all over your asses), my wife bought me a bottle from City Beer Store in SF for $8.99.
    Expect maybe $10.99-12.99 here?

I have now heard it should be in-stores today, with a "sizeable quantity". I'm almost more curious about the Stone R&R now...

I think $9.99 is actually very reasonable. I know I got EnjoyBy for $8.99 at one retailer in Falcon Height and then it was $9.99 in St. Louis Park. The every day bombers from Stone are not $9.99, I have seen them from $4.99 to $9.99. Sure it is more than California but as at least one other person noted they do have to ship it here which is not cheap. You might also look at 6 pack and 4 pack prices here vs say another border state. You should also look at your retailer as I am almost 100% positive they chose the final price. Maybe ask them sometime what their margin is. You seem to have no problem paying $21+ for a Surly but for a beer from California $9.99 is a lot? We pay how much in a bar to drink a pint but we cry over a $9.99 bomber?

Man, they were $7.99 here in Iowa. All this talk of $9.99 in MN sounds crazy to me.

Yep, I've been to most states in that are in Stone's distribution. Minnesota is higher than anywhere else, including the East cost.

Well, I guess that you are the target (and surprisingly content) audience for this type of gouging. It has been shown over and over again that this is not just a comparison against CA, but all across the US, including ones immediately surrounding MN and states even further away from CA, so this pricing issue with Stone product in MN has nothing to do with distance. And it isn't about lumping together all CA bombers as being "worth" $9.99 a bomber. Even in CA, breweries have different price points and Stone has always been on the less expensive side, alongside Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas and Bear Republic. And two of those three have been in MN at comparable price points to CA and other states, even before their expansion to open other brewing facilities.

Also, I want to be on the record now that I would never pay $21+ for anything that Surly has yet released. They are a decent brewery, but not a brewery yet capable of brewing beers on that level. At least not now or in the foreseeable future; unless they have some unannounced talent that they are planning to bring on board with the new brewery. When they start releasing beers on the level of a Firestone anniversary or Consecration or a Lou Pepe Kriek, then I would consider paying $21+.

to your point: I thought Seviin was mediocre at best, and not worth $20+ I still see it on shelves at that price.

That being said, I've heard that the distributors here have a nice monopoly on the market and drive those prices more than anything else. Stone also requires distributors to cold-ship on 24-hour drives, which cost quite a bit. Not sure why we are hit for a few bucks more than iowa or the east coast though. We may be right on the cusp of their trucking guidelines, and they may have a better method to the east coast (rail?).

    "Surly...is a decent brewery."

    <chokes on own saliva>

Good lord, man. Why don't sprint out onto a Vikings field at halftime & hang Adrian Peterson in effigy?

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, & the pricing for SeVIIn tipped over the edge of reason, but there are people all over the country (not just us homers) that would dispute that Surly is just "decent". Though I know your eye is keener & more unbiased than all of ours...
