    Hey gang,

Ill be in your fine town on this coming tues and wed. I am from Illinois but now live in South Carolina. I try to get up there once a year for a couple cards games.

The last couple years I have been using BA suggestions to help me with my itinerary. I have been to Schlafly's tap room on Locust many times. Last summer I made it to Iron Barley (great lunch), Urban Chestnut, Int. Tap house, and Bridge, and some random dive bars.

So, Im not sayin I might not hit any of those places again, but considering where I have already been, if you had had to recommend a few new places what would they be? I have never been to perennial or six row or 4 hands. Which one has the coolest set up as far as tasting room, food, food trucks, cool patio, friendliness, overall vibe, what ever.

Also, I have never had toasted ravioli. Is this a total cheeseball tourist thing to even ask about or is it worth seeking out and trying? If so where?

Lastly, I keep seeing Pappys BBQ pop up on tv shows and top national bbq lists. But when I read the reviews a lot of them start out with "so after waiting an hour..." Well, if Im going to be in town on a Tuesday and a Wednesday, do you think it would be possible to hit the place at some point where the wait wouldn't be so bad? Or is it always crazy busy? And is it worth it?

Thanks for any input you can give on any part of this long message. I know I am asking about a lot of shit, but if you can throw in your 2 cents about any of it, I would really appreciate it. Your help has lead to two great trips the last couple summers.

Oh, one last thing. What your favorite dive bar in StL? Beer selection doesn't matter. I gotta hit one good dive while in town. Preferably somewhere I wont get shanked in the parking lot. I saw this cool article:

    http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/rftmusic/2013/04/dive_bars_2013.php

I like the look of highlights, but want to hear the inside scoop.

    Cheers.

Definitely check out 4 hands and perennial, both are worth it.

Toasted ravioli is Definitely worth it. Most places in the hill have great toasted ravioli but you can get decent almost anywhere.

Pappys is amazing but there is always a long wait. I've gone at totally random times and days and the line has always been super long. Worth it if you have the time.

If you are here Tuesday go to Perennial. Its STL craft beer week and they are having ALL their BA beers on draft Tuesday. You can brag to everyone you got to try BA Abraxas and not trade your car for it!

I went to Bogart's BBQ when in town instead of Pappy's as a bunch of locals told me they preferred their BBq. Ribs were out of this world, along with the pit beans, and free high fives. There is a BYOF I Tap like a block away, grab your BBQ and go have a pint or 2.

Perennial and 4 Hands were my standouts from the trip beer wise and also Bailey's Range was one of the best burgers I've ever had and a really good tap list. Make their own soda and ice cream too.

I tried Pappy's for lunch and the line was too long. But I've gone around 5 times for dinner and never waited in line more than 10 minutes. Sometimes some things are sold out, but I just made another choice. So if you want to try Pappy's you might have better luck in the evening. Pappy's is great.

If you haven't been to Civil Life, you might consider checking that out.

You should really check out the Good Pie. Great pizza and great beer list. They're closing for a month starting next week so they can move locations, so this is the last week at the original location.

Some new places in Clayton worth checking out are Five Star Burgers and Pastaria.

IMO, Civil Life is #1 in all your criteria. Perennial being a close 2nd. Food is better at Perennial, but Civil Life has some great made to order deli sandwiches.

A lot places serve the frozen shit and it's not worth trying. But there are places making their own that are damn good. Quincy Street Bistro comes to mind and they have a pretty good craft beer list.

It's really damn good and totally worth it, but you can go to Bogarts for lunch either of those days and get just as good BBQ and have to wait 20 min tops. If you want to go to Pappys, I'd wait until 4 or so. The lunch rush is bad.

    Pappy's is good but overrated.

Best T-Ravs are in no particular order: Anthonino's, Trattoria Marcella/Mia Sorella, Rigazzis, Katie's Pizzeria

Is it worth the wait? That's really up to each person's tolerance levels.

Is it the best BBQ in St Louis (or 2nd to Bogarts)? This is a fact and if you don't agree with it, you don't know what you're talking about.

Bogarts is the best barbeque period.

And not sure if you would call it a dive, but Hair of the Dog on Washington Ave. is awesome. Great beer selection, $2 PBR, shuffleboard, pacman, bubble hockey, darts, and Golden Tee.

Jeeze... I'm flying out for NJ to STL this afternoon for business, I was already working through my head how to make it from our hotel to Perennial lol! Still want to make it just not as much urgency now

With that said, I've posted a similar/ less specific thread a while back. Folks were very helpful in giving some great recommendations. Does anyone know where I could find Abraxas in any form (BA non BA) bottled in the city?

I definitely like Bogarts the best, and I've heard good things about Sugarfire and Hendricks. Honestly, I find it kind of hard to fuck BBQ up to badly as long as a place gets decent business and product is continually turning over.

A surprising place to try is Smoki-Os, a little bit more soulful BBQ but I like it, the snoots are worth trying

lots of good suggestions, i also agree with posters above about 4 hands, civil life, and perennial are all worth hitting, six row im not crazy about. pappys is really good, but yeah you will have a wait pretty much anytime of day. i cant comment on toasted ravioli, because i cant stand it. quick side story, im convinced that i must have been conceived while my parents were out of town somewhere, because i really dont care for most of the things st louis is famous for (toasted ravioli, imo's pizza, AB beer, cardinals baseball). anyway, one other suggestion would be scottish arms, kinda divey feeling bar, amazing if you are into scotch, they have great food, and usually a really solid beer list. broadway oyster bar is pretty divey as well, its a pretty fun experience though from the few times ive been there

    hahaha.....haha......hahahahaha.....hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....ha...

    no

Regular Abraxas will be available late fall I believe, and I have a feeling its no longer going to sit on shelves for more than a day or two

While I agree Shaved Duck is very good, it kind of blends fine dining with bbq, which is definitely not very traditional. Still, a pretty solid place with good beer selection

And gotta say I had great smoked prime rib at Iron Barley a couple weeks ago and they always have a good beer selection
