that is just completely wrong. His prices are really high, unless you consider everything rare. Yes I have compared his prices directly to other stores. Ivan might be helpful, but everyone else in that store is clueless. He has old stock (including IPAs) sitting on the shelves. I also don't agree with his practice of selling traded beer, brewery only beer, or RS only beers. A good thing about his place is due to the higher prices, and not general craft beer crowd, stuff will tend to sit there longer, so when I know of people really hunting for something I will stop in there to see what they have.

I was in Sea Trader yesterday. Ivan was pretty damn helpful, and I didn't see out of distro beer littered on the shelves either.

Fact is, Ivan gives top notch service to his customers and offered 10% off to OP. Sounds good to me.

I didn't realize Sea Trader was so polarizing. Is Ivan the new Freddy?

Not even close to it. Freddy is as shady as it gets.

Ivan is nothing like that asshole Freddy. He is a great guy.

I have talked with Ivan in the past (at least I believe so) and he seems like a really nice guy. Plus he doesn't go out of his way to bash other places and make fake accounts.

So, where am I gonna find Pliny The Elder the week of August 3rd?

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

on tap or in bottles? Bottles come in typically on Fridays, some places sell out right away. But they don't come every week. On tap, who knows. Some place may tap it by then, and it can kick before the 3rd.

For your area, on tap I would check out: Stone Liberty Station, Pizza Port, and New Port Pizza
In bottles: Olive Tree Market, Baron's Market Place, Chris' Liqour and Deli

Depends on how fast you drive. Speed of traffic in Cali is around 80

It's called sarcasm. Sometimes people use it when the same question gets asked weekly on a board, with the topic even still appearing on the front page.

Anyone trying to compare Ivan to Freddy has obviously never met Freddy.

Why be a sarcastic ass when you could just be helpful and answer the guy's honest question? If you don't like that the topic keeps appearing on the forum, skip the thread.

I'm just not even sure why OP is looking for IPA's in this area when the region as a whole just doesn't compare to the rest of what's available in the US.

To be honest, if you are at Liberty Station, walk into a wine bar there called Wine Steals. They have had Pliny in bottles every time I've been in there (albeit, I've only been there a few times with my girlfriend). Don't expect great beer on tap, it is a wine place. But if you want Pliny...well..its a good shot especially since it is so close.

I guarantee you will get Pliny while you are here, at the very least on tap, it is pretty common.

It's not an honest question though, it's a lazy one. It takes 5 minutes to search the forum (or even scan the front page). If you're going to be lazy, then I'm going to be lazy in my responses.

I'm not the one that gave sarcastic answers; just explaining what other people did. rrryanc answered it in part, I think

    Missed one.

Fathom Bistro has a pretty good supply of Pliny and is not that far from there at all. Draft only.

They used to be priced great, then they started marking up the rarer stuff twice as much as the other stuff. Meanwhile, as nano pointed out expired IPAs sat on the shelf (I remember seeing an 11 month old summer YuleSmith there once.) Last time I was there (a while ago) they had Cascades for $50 and RS beers at twice the membership price on the shelf. If they have gone back to a more reasonable price structure and started playing by the rules, then that is awesome. I know Ivan is a great guy and means well, but I was pretty appalled at various different things there on my last visit (a while ago).

Someone's gotta moderate the laziness. At least folks are having fun with it.
