In San Diego today on biz so that means one thing, head up the hill for lunch and refills. Pleasantly surprised to see all the big guns in stock for a change and more excited to see they have just released their collaboration with New Belgium called Gouden Vallei. As the bottle says it's a monastic inspired Belgian Pale Ale dry hopped and spiced with pink peppercorns, it's mind blowing good. It also has been hopped with Nelson Sauvin as well so there's a bit of that wonderful Nelson nose and spice character. It's big boy pale ale checking in at 7.3 abv. Available only in 16 ounce bottles and on tap. Cheers......
Yeah it looks tasty. I've been meaning to head out there to pick some up. Just waiting on spry to drive us (hint hint).
Damn.......I had to check on a job up there today. I didn't stop because I knew I would've had to call in "sick" for the rest of the day. Should've taken the sick day Might have to take the wife up there this weekend
For this release only. They told me that they will eventually begin canning their beer when the move down the street, but that's a bit out there. Cheers.....
Any chance that New Belgium distributes their own version as part of Lips of Faith? Would love to get this and Alpine is so freaking hard to get my hands on.
I heard new belgium is going to release it later this year and distribute to their areas they cover which is much more available. Its just that Alpine is releasing theirs first
That's what I was hoping. One of the main reasons I actually love it when New Belgium collaborates with someone. I know Mo Betta Bretta will be much easier to get in their version than the Lost Abbey one (probably better carbonated, too).
I heard they are doing a different beer at NBs brewery and that one will see wide distro. This one is Alpine only.
http://www.beerpulse.com/2012/04/new-belgium-alpine-beer-co-doing-double-collaboration/ "For those that miss out on Alpine’s version (available only in its own market), New Belgium’s version to be brewed this summer will also be bottled and likely available across a wider distribution footprint (in New Belgium’s market)." It sounds like its going to be the same but the could change it. Update nevermind it is a different beer. Just read new belgium's blog.
I was at Alpine a couple of weeks Gouden Vallei, Alpine Beer Co release only, not gonna be brewed at NB. The beer that will be brewed at NB in the fall will be an Alpine Style Double IPA, cant wait for that one! They will brew more of that beer than alpine brews in an entire year...
It's not on tap anymore. They did tap Chez while I was there yesterday though. Maybe they'll tap another keg of Gouden, but it wasn't on last night.
