I'm not a BBQ fan but hubby is. Looks like they have enough to keep me happy though lol. And you had me at Devil Dancer  We might stop there to grab a snack once we land!

If you want to take him to one of the best bbq joints in the country try Slows in downtown Detroit. Seriously i drive 45 minutes once a week to grab some, anyone can vouch for it, their sandwich the Yardbird was voted the #1 sandwhich in America according to a show on the food channel, ill post the link in a second. You can easily make it there to or from Kuhnhenn and Dragonsmead.

They also have an amazing michigan beer tap list that is always changing!

I definitely think the Dark Horse tour is worth it. My bf and I did it on our first visit to the brewery a couple weekends ago. It was just the two of us and the dude, so we got to ask a ton of questions and spend a little more time in the areas of the brewery that we thought were cool. It was $10 each for us, but like said you get to go up to the VIP lounge, which is pretty cool, you get a pint glass, and get tastings. One of them for us was BBPt5, which was the whole reason we even did the tour. Like I said, it was just 2-3weeks ago, so they should still have it.

As far as food, I add to the list Ashley's in Ann Arbor. There is also one in Westland that isn't as college town crazy. Great food & amazing beer selection. And Wurst Bar in Ypsi is ridiculous. Walking distance from beerfest (just head up Cross street towards the giant penis-like tower). Planning on heading there after the festival myself (if I can keep things classy enough to be allowed in public establishments). Sidetrack and Aubree's are closer post-beerfest food options. (Head the opposite way down Cross street- over the bridge).

If you head to downtown Detroit, I suggest hitting up Fishbones in Greektown. A safer part of Detroit, and amazing food. And the casino is across the street if you are into that kind of thing.

Looking over the list for the fest, got it narrowed down to 84 lol. Crossing off the ones that are on tap at the breweries we're visiting and/or readily available.
Looked up Tapistry Brewing to find that they've only been open a week or so, and they are right near Greenbush. Definitely gonna visit them! Nothing at the fest that's not on tap in case you all are intrigued.

Day 1 complete - hit Dragonmead (some we loved, some were meh - Juggernaut and the Raspberry Chocolate Port were amazing), dinner at Griffin Claw (good food, but beer only ok), and then went to Kuhnhenn (not stellar but decent enough).

Fest tomorrow - I'm wearing my "craft beer: its not alcoholism, it's a hobby" shirt and hubby will be in a Cigar City Brewing Huhahpu's shirt. We got the Enthusiast memberships so we'll be there an hour early.

To each their own..I hit up Woodshop,Slows,Lockhart's a bunch of times a year and all 3 of them are good..Some things better than others at each...The Mac n Cheez is where woodshop blows them out of the water..

Agree that all can be good, depending on the time of day. Having spent a lot of time in Central TX, I have to say the best beef brisket in MI is equal to average Brisket in TX. MI BBQ places have better sides and much better craft beer.

ill agree about the brisket. the woodshop brisket is the only thing there that i dont find completely amazing. their ribs and their steak are where they really excel.

there is 1 massive thing you notice or at least i do between the two places when you walk in to woodshop you immediately smell the aroma of wood burning, when you walk into slows you do not smell that anymore and thats because i dont think they are smoking all of there meat anymore. Last time i ate there had pulled pork sandwich and the meat was braised not smoked.

This might explain the no smoke aroma at Slows.

And John Stamos aunt was a teacher in my elementary school, so with a Michigan resident on your side too maybe we can get you involved as well. Let's push the Beach Boys not Jessie and the Rippers.

Enjoying the Pure Michigan discussion

The fest was awesome - tried way too many beers and passed out before 8pm lol. Totally worth it though! Met so many nice people and enjoyed several of the beers.

Started today with brunch at Arbor Brewing. Delicious!

Loving the cool weather - at home it's humid and flippin hot!

Good bottle selection of shorts available, you could always grab a mixed sixer for the hotel.
