Got a 4pack last night (thanks to the guys at East1st for telling my mom what to buy) and I loved it. I need to have her go buy more if there's any left today

There's a common 'vegetal' off-flavor caused by a compound called DMS (http://beersensoryscience.wordpress.com/tag/dms/). It's typically characterized as producing a cooked vegetable flavor/aroma. It's presence generally results from poor brewing practices.

While I don't perceive any DMS in the Half IPA, I think the hops do contribute a flavor/aroma I might describe as 'green'. Citra and Amarillo are very potent, and we used a lot of both. Combine that with a light pilsner malt backbone and low gravity finish (not much residual sugars), and the actual hop flavor is more apparent than in most other offerings.

Yeah! I had one after the JK share (thanks Nate!) and it was still awesome.

As a homebrewer I avoid any and all DMS (dimethal sulfides), There is no DMS in Half IPA. I love citra and amarillo and I use them alot. Along with simcoe. They shine in this beer and I love it. I wished you would make the dipa and half ipa year round as I would buy stock in them. DMS also adds a big corn or buttered popcorn flavor. I am a big ABW fan and it's awesome to have them local. Keep cranking those awesome nectars out!

Had my first Half IPA last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. Hops were present, but not overwhelming. Great example of an American Pale Ale. 16 oz went quick.

Had 1 today and would pretty much explain it the same way, word for word.

Thanks. It had held up very well. Was quite impressed and look forward to this in future releases if it ever makes it to Houston.

Crossing posts here, but curious for the question.
Sumpin' wild is great. I get a little annoyed when bars say they have sumpin' on tap, because there's sumpin' sumpin and sumpin' wild, etc.

Anyway, if you (Lutter and other SW BAs) had to pick between HM DIPA and HM HIPA year round, which would you opt for?

DIPA because I'm a huge ***** for XTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME shit. But HIPA is much closer than I would have thought.

    Look at my reaction times.

Definitely HIPA, because I'm a lush.

Opened my first can of HIPA after having it on draft once, and I was blown away. So much better than the cans of HM DIPA.
Please make HIPA year round, ABW.

In somewhat related news, we're brewing the Belgian IPA today and, due to an early harvest, will be brewing the Wet Hop IPA next week.
