    Hello,

Last week I sent a package via UPS from Ohio to California. Following the box on tracking everything went just fine until the box was placed on the delivery truck out in California. It suddenly became damaged and DISCARDED!!

I have reached out to UPS via email to get answers, but no response yet?

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I'm looking for any advice from fellow BA's.

    Thanks

Ha. Sucks right? I was sick to my stomach when I read that on my delivery update.

Well, I can offer some advice since I had the exact same thing happen to me last week. Made first attempt, 2nd attempt it broke and it was all discarded. I let the retail offices know they willingly shipped my alcohol with no forewarning and they are processing an insurance claim for me. While I won't get my Jai Alai and Heady back, I'm at least getting $65 back from them which will soften the blow.

If the store knew it was alcohol, you can fight this. If not, let it go and be happy you aren't getting fined.

I'm pretty sure the response is you shipping beer is illegal and you should not pursue it with UPS.

John Bobbitt has a similar problem.

That's what I'm afraid of.... I definitely don't want to get into trouble or pay any fines.... So just chalk it up as a lose and move on?

How could they throw him in jail? Assuming he's of age and the recipient was of age. I was in the belief UPS could levy fines. Jail time is when you ship beer through the USPS.

I don't believe a fine can successfully be prosecuted against you. There also is no black list.

However there is something you can do about this for the future. It involves a small amount of reading and careful adherence to the directions given in the section that describes how to pack beers so they won't break.

If you are not willing to take your box and drop it ten feet onto concrete it isn't ready to be shipped.

Funny thing about my broken package is that the beermail that made it me safely wasn't NEARLY as well packed as mine. Heh.

Maybe there's some UPS BA's that are taking our beer.

    1. Ship FedEx. These issues seem to happen much more often with UPS (completely anecdotal)

    2. Learn to pack. In no way am I being a dick here, but I'm just amazed at some of the shitty packing I've seen people do, and get away with. I once got a box that was a bunch of bottles jammed into a shoe box, no bubble wrap, and the box was closed by being wrapped in duct tape. Amazingly nothing broke, but that might have been a miracle.

Might be overkill, but if I dont have a styro shipper (preferred method), I put each bottle in an individual heavy duty zip-seal bag, then bubble wrap them thickly until I can't see the label any more, then shrink wrap them (to avoid using tape on the bubblewrap), and put them in a box that I then pack inside another box. Yes, this is a lot of steps, but I havent had a single bottle break since I started doing it this way.

Thanks man... I consider myself to be pretty efficient at packaging always use bubble wrap packing peanuts and packing paper.. I've made around 15-20 trades and never once had a problem.. This was only 3rd time using UPS... Prolly never again!! Might try box inside a box method next time? Thanks for advise.

Zero difference between UPS and FedEx. They both use the same types of trucks, sorting facilities, warehouses, and drivers.

A lot of the reported stories here, though, are that FedEx is much more likely to discard the broken bottle, repack your box and ship it onto its destination. UPS on the other hand is notorious for completely discarding everything.

I have had 0 problems with my boxes, and I always ship UPS.

I have had 3 prob.s with boxes coming to me, and they all were FedEx.

The lesson here is pack like I do, which is to be able to survive a fall of ten feet onto concrete, and you won't have a problem no matter who you ship with.

    Just gonna leave this here...

Keep this in mind when you're packing your boxes. Srs.

My strategy of late has been to pack them heavy enough that they're not easy to toss...

UPS does the same thing. I just had to balance the FedEx videos.
