The only demand I care about in the supply-demand curve is MY demand. Businesses exist to serve me and fulfill my wants--I mean needs. I don't care about their "values," I don't care about the sustainability of their long-term business model, and I don't care about being fair to any other customers other than myself (if they really wanted it as much as me, they'd wake up earlier or be less employed). They should just brew the beer and do whatever it takes to make sure it's there when I want it. Oh, and who are they to tell me to recycle the can? I can do with it whatever I want; I paid for it.

    (Did I miss anything here?)

    No.

That would mean that this store is not an authorized retailer and thus, may be contributing to the black market.

Why? Do you think that you're entitled to Heady or something?

This sticker idea actually seems pretty brilliant to me from a marketing perspective. If you're going from basically no distribution (or at least very limited) to hopefully broader distribution, you want a way for non hardcore people to know where Heady is sold. This is essentially free advertising in the front windows of the bars and stores that sell it. The casual craft beer fan walks by, sees an "Authorized Heady Distributor" sticker, and jumps into the store to buy some. Keeps it moving quickly because it gives people an easy way to see where they can get it, plus it builds the excitement because people farther across the state know where they can get it closer to them on a (in theory) regular basis.

Very interesting discussion and view points voiced by all in this thread. I have one simple somewhat related question for anyone in the know: If I was to go up to Waterbury on a Saturday and The Cannery has already run out of Heady for the day, what is the most reliable retail store in the area (gas station, liquor store, etc.) to score a few 4 packs? Thanks in advance for any insight.

It would be nice if the business model is one that will keep them in business for years to come so you can continue getting their products.

Sean's business plan is a very cautious one. One step at a time, assessing his progress along the way. He seems very sensible after chatting about it with me a long time ago. He has held to it, and is maintaining a family-oriented lifestyle that suits him - and his family. I think he is being very smart about it. BA/RB will not drive him to do otherwise, and that is fine by me.

So long as he continues to produce phenomenal beer and I get the opportunity to enjoy every once in while, fine by me!

I agree. My quote was directed at the fact he didn't not care if a company used a sustainable business model- it would make sense to do that on both sides. If someone goes out of business you can't get their product anymore.

I love the way threads go so far off topic and grow ever more contentious between fewer and fewer people the longer they go on. The question is usually played out in first 20 responses. This was about Heady Topper, right?
