I'm trying to help plan a bachelor party for a buddy of mine, and we were thinking of doing a brewery tour or multiple brewery tours in Chicago. Anybody have suggestions for which one(s) is/are the best? Ideally, I think it would be cool to hit multiple spots, but I'm not sure how logistically feasible it would be. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!
Not a ton of super interesting tours really in chicago. Theres a Half Acre one that you have to line-up for thats decent, the goose island clybourn one always looks lackluster (I think its 1 and 3pm on saturdays and sundays but you just stand in their small brew room which you can see from the pub and listen to someone for 30 minutes), the revolution one also looks like it is also kinda standing in a small room and staring at equipment while someone talks, and I think Finch has one but if I mention that name this thread might explode. you might be better off just starting at half acre and end at haymarket and stop at revolution, goose, & Piece in between. Almost all of em got a glass enclosed brew house you can see while you eat/drink.
Here is an Idea: http://www.chicagobrewbus.com I have not done the brew bus tour myslef but it does include stops @ Haymarket, GI Clybourn, and Rev. They also have a couple other stops but those are the best three( I believe you only get three stops) I thought about this last year for my Bachelor party but ultimately decided against it, because we ended up staying in IN. Cheers
The only craft brewery tour I've done that I've felt was worthwhile was Schlafly down in St. Louis. Most of the others have just been standing in a small brew house listening to someone explain (again) the basics of how beer is made. Do the brew bus. You should be happy. Bonus points if Nkosi from Chicago Beer Geeks is hosting that day.
I've seen this online before, and it looked interesting. I was considering going that route, but thought I'd open it up to the forum for suggestions first. Glad to see that my original thoughts weren't that far off! I also came across this online: http://www.chicagobeerexperience.com/beer-tour-descriptions.html It wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but it sounded interesting. Anybody ever do this one?
Sure, but be forewarned you'll be partying with a bunch of Sconnies, so be prepared to catch some Bears/Cubs - related flack!
I would be able to handle all of the Cubs stuff since I am a Sox fan but can't handle the Bears stuff. I have too many friends from Wis giving me enough crap.. Enjoy Half Acre, I hear that's one of the better ones
Ha, it's all in good fun! In any case, I appreciate the feedback, and I'll post an update if we decide to do either of those tours! It's not for a couple of months yet, so any other suggestions in the meantime are always welcome!
