    Hey folks,

I came, I saw, I have a new dead spot on my liver....

I kicked St louis' ass for 2 days, I think you would be proud of me. Thanks for all you great suggestions.

    Day 1:
Triumph Café (Im a old school Triumph guy, wanted to check the museum, and had a couple nice blvd beers on tap)
Pappys, awesome bbq, showed up at 1230 and amazingly only 15 min wait, maybe cuz SLU is on break?
Then met a couple friends at southtown pub, decdent dive, had 3 stags.
Then Some other cheeseball sports bar sort of across the street that some drunk hooker dragged us to called bommers? maybe.
Then Civil Life. Great spot, amazing vibe, solid old school beer styles, and really cool bartender.
Then checked into hotel downtown and took cab to 4 hands, nice place, really like the contact high, rest was so-so.
Then cards game, whooped the dirty Phillies.
Then to cheeseball landing bar sundeckers to meet back up with some friends who didn't go to game, beer selection so bad I drank Ketel one and tonics.

    Day 2:
Woke, took a nice 3 mile walk around downtown, through capital building, around arch, down the riverfront to the north for a ways until I went to far north and heard either gunfire or really late 4th of July fireworks.
Drove to Mama's in 'The Hill' neighborhood, cuz Wikipedia sais they invented the toasted ravioli. Well, a lot of cities are famous for different foods. Let me tell you, I have tried most of them, and toasted fucking ravioli is the most over-rated piece of shit thing ever. Not terrible, just totally not impressive or worth seeking out. Luckily their Italian Club sandwich was damn amazing. Seriously, go have one. And the old dudes sittin with me at the bar were nice and looked like extras from the Sopranos.
Then to Iron Barley, been there before, great food but I was stuffed, had two good beers
Then hit the interstate bypass and looped around to the wine and cheese place on new bellas (I was trying to kill time til perennial opened) Got some firestone and odells stuff we cant get is SC.
Drove back into town on some scenic type road with a bunch of crazy mansions.
Went to Urban Chestnut. My 3rd time at this place. The beer has seriously gotten better each time, now to the point it is very good. Great staff, knowlegable with out being douchy know-it-alls, great place.
Then to Schlaflys, I didn't plan on going there, but I was so close. Had a bartender I have had there many times since literally when they first opened. Good guy, knows his shit. Had a nice nitro coffee stout and a couple others, like the half pours (UC was confused by this)
Left and went to Perrenial. I was one of about 3 customers. Love the little 4 or 5 ounce tasters. Tried 4 good beers.
Left there and drove back up along the river on Broadway.
Hit Highlights (dive bar) and a Champaigne (high life) draft. Made a few new friends (pretty damn sociable at this point) the continued on to Slo-Toms. Had a PBR, made a couple more friends but had to hurry, game starting.
I hit two of the top ten dive bars according to riverfront times, feling like a badass.
Went to the game, cards win again. Family next to me obviously annoyed with my drunkin screaming. Left game after 7 innings. (I got there in the 3rd)
Went to Baileys range. Sobering up a little at this point. Had a ABC burger (roasted apples, Bacon, Camembere cheese) Great stuff, and a couple small beers, civil life brown and something else local.
Next, casino time. Went to Lumiere and turned $200 into $375 in about 25 minutes playing blackjack. I put the cash in my sock cuz StL makes me nervous like that and drank my Ketel One in plastic cup as I brisk walked back to my Hotwire 3 star downtown hotel.

I love your town, I shall return.

Thanks again for the advice. I will seek it out again next year.

    Cheers
    Ryan

    2 major mistakes:
    1. Going ANYWHERE on the landing (tourists and trash)
    2. Mama Campisi's, some of the shittiest food on the Hill (most of which is so so) and not good T-Ravs

Otherwise thanks for the kind words!

I totally understand about the landing. One of my friends girlfriends was already there. And at that point, it didn't really matter. I was shit hammered.

Although, I did sort of wonder what happened to the landing. I realize it's always been sort of a touristy place that local St. Louis natives would probably never go to. But 15 years ago, when I lived in Illinois, and came to St. Louis regularly to party, The landing was a fun place when I was in my early 20s, to drink and dance and try to find women. It really seems to have gone downhill. Like I said, not that it was ever great, but now it really really looks trashy.

I know what you are saying, I would go to the landing sometimes when I was a bit younger but slowly things changed. Washington Avenue has taken over and I think will go way of the Landing before long

One other mistake. The capital building you mentioned was probably the Old Courthouse.

Glad you had a great time.
