Hello Portland, I'm visiting this week and am planning on sending about a dozen beers back to Los Angeles. Accordingly, I'm looking for a 12-bottle styro shipper in which to send the bottles. Does anyone have any idea where I could pick up such a shipper? Any help is much appreciated and I hope to run into some of you during the week's travels. Best, Jeremy
A quick search of the forum will turn up about five threads with recommendations for Portland Wine Storage.
First! Rose City Wine Storage. 1 block north, 1 block east of HotD. Right under the bridge...and don't mind the homeless people. The new 12-bottle styro's are either 16$ or 20$, can't remember EDIT: not first, ^This GUy^ apparently types faster than I do
YES. Call them ahead and see what they have on hand...it depends on who's working, but I recently grabbed three 12-bottle shippers and two 6-bottle shippers for $10 total. Most of them were basically brand new, i.e. I'm pretty sure they had been used once (direct shipment from a winery to PWS). Another solid recommendation...I bought brand new 6-bottle shippers here for (I'm pretty sure) $6 each. Whatever the price was, I know it registered because I am a cheap fuck.
Huh... Maybe that's where I need to buy shippers. Im sure I've called them for a price quote on shippers, but found their hours odd and I couldn't get down there
Hi, A coworker and beer friend of mine is heading to the Portland OR area next week and was hoping to ship some beer (and possibly wine) home. Can someone please point me in the right direction as to where: he can purchase a 12 bottle styo shipper (or 2)? is the best FedEx place to ship from (someplace where they'll not give him crap about sending beer)? Thanks, Jeff
You won't find a FedEx place that will be OK with you shipping beers. The best thing to do is not tell them. Have him print out shipping labels before he goes to PDX. This way he can just tape them on the boxes and just drop them off.
UPS sell 6 & 12 bottle shippers (cost me $26.00 when I was in Seattle). It's not the styro version, but the heavy duty paper mache style, light but sturdy. I brought 12 bottles on a plane and all arrived perfectly.
Solid point - I've had good success during normal business hours, but it still seems to take a touch of luck to catch someone who works there...I wanted to stop by today around 1:00 but couldn't get anyone on the phone. Editing my own comment on Rose City Wine Storage...I stopped by today - you can buy just the box that fits a 6-bottle styro shipper for $3, or you can buy the box + the styro inserts for $15.
I took this recommendation while visiting HOTD-thanks for your help! While $20 is a bit steep, it's a top quality shipper that I should be able to reuse several times.
