Tapped my 5gal keg of Coma yesterday. Love the new recipe. Will compare to bottle soon.

Had the Prieta recently (1st time) and there was basically very little aroma and bitterness...it was just sort of one note. Not a terrible beer but certainly not deserving of the "aroma" name.

We must be drinking different beers. I got none of the Nelson that litheum above mentioned in Prieta. And just as LegalBrew above me said, mine lacked aroma and any overwhelming hop flavors. It was quite boring.

i had it once last year and once this year, both on tap. definitely tastes like nelson to me.

Just purchased a bottle at Total Wine Tustin ... $7 ... 1 per customer. Had about a case and a half left. Also they have plenty of R&R ... 2 per customer. They are both in the keg section.

Had Prieta at Beachwood LB. It was merely okay and not nearly as good as the first batch I had. I guess a change in brewers and possibly the recipe can do that.

In a certain Fullerton brewery's case, they just work with what they have when they decide they want to brew a certain beer. While certain year round releases for the most part have some consistancy, there's a huge variance in a certain 10% DIPA they occasionally release.

They said they changed the recipe, don't think it had much to do with a new brewer.

Well presumably the old brewer would've used the same recipe.

I thought they changed the hops for Coma, not Prieta.

I was pretty sure they changed both.

    You crazy.

    Prieta '13 > Coma '12 > Coma '13 > Prieta '12

Thank you! Drake's beers are not as good as they once were. Didn't they change brewers recently? I wasn't going to pay $7.99 for a bomber of Aroma Coma any how but now I can stick to those guns.

Once again, the change in flavor is due to a new hop recipe, not a change in brewers. Their quality is just as good as it's ever been.

Would they change in recipe have happened without the change in brewers? Seems like a semantic argument to be making.

Good question, no real way to know I guess but they said the recipe change was done because of the shift in the hop crop from year to year. I'd doubt that a new brewer came in and decided to change one of their most famous seasonal beers.

Really? That's exactly what I'd expect to happen. Gotta "put your stamp" on the organization.
