If that's true, at only 87 vs. Pliny's 100, I guess people drink beers for the labels instead of what's actually in the bottle.

I wouldn't be surprised... people do the same thing with cigars.

While I don't doubt that is often the case, I think it might also have to do with people reviewing older bottles since Coronado hasn't started bottle-dating yet. Maybe I lucked out and had a super fresh bottle.

But yeah I kind of feel that a lot of people who have given PtE, HT, etc a 5 rating would probably be closer to 4 if it were poured in a pint glass, handed to them, and told this is "Double Bob" from Bob's Brewery.

Heady Topper in a pint glass is unmistakable. I've often wondered how so many people give it a 5 for appearance.

I had Zombie Dust and Dark Horse's Artic Dekoorc Eert side by side (not blind) and could barely tell them apart. The nose, taste, and appearance were all almost indistinguishable to me. I couldn't say I preferred one over the other, but I could say I was disappointed that the Dark Horse Crooked Tree mixed 12 pack was gone the next time I tried to buy another one.

After a few IPAs, all IPAs seem to taste similar to me. I chalk it up to underdeveloped palate syndrome.

I actually love the cloudy, floatie look of HT. The first time I had it was from tap, and I like to believe those were delicious little hop candies floating in my beer.

Stone Enjoy By and PtE. We have done three different side by side tastings and in all three it was very surprising how close they are. Of course this is just the opinion of three beer drinking buddies but we were very impressed. And being in AZ it is easier to score Enjoy By then it is PtE.

Have you ever thought how awkward a dopplegangbang would be?

As a narcissist, awkwardness doesn't really play a role in this thought.

There's no substitute for beer. Maybe whiskey.

Basically my response too (except I don't live in Michigan). We've got about 750 breweries in Washington, Oregon, and California—plus what we get from Alaska, Montana, Colorado, and beyond. I have trouble just keeping up. I've been unsuccessfully trying to get my cellar down below 300 bottles for a couple years now, but new beers just keep coming faster than I can drink them.

    Substitute?!? Does not compute.

When I can't find an imperial stout, I get bourbon, Budweiser, chocolate milk and mix all contents in a 33oz DAB mug. :grimacing:
