Why do I have to be an over the hill obese woman to drink Diet Coke? It's the second most popular soda behind Coca-Cola.

And when purchasing cans of Diet Coke cans, or any soda cans at the supermarket (since you're clearly not an over-the-hill obese woman) which format do you prefer? 2 liter bottles?

Soooo, we should we warn the EPA about the BPA in our IPA? (I supposed only if we do not recycle..)

Not scared just questioning long term effects. Something I think people need to think about. When your young you think you are invincible and you don't consider the things you do today that may have long term effects on you. Just saying it is something we just do not know and probably will not anytime soon. Why put your health at risk if you do not have to? But hey man its your life. With age comes wisdom and I have seen things that originally were supposed to be "safe" end up causing serious problems long term. And yeah dumping that diet coke would probably be a good start towards better long term health. Read up on the latest research on diet sodas and your health.

What was originally supposed to be safe that has caused serious long term health issues? Not saying there isn't anything, I'm just curious.

Could you please provide me with legitimate studies (not articles from yahoo or msn, also, please no rat studies) showing diet soda as the cause of death or fatal disease? Diet Rite came out in 1958, surely in the last 56 years there must be mounds of data to support this. In fact, I'm curious why the FDA hasn't banned it altogether.

I can find plenty of studies showing the harmful effects of smoking cigarettes....actually I can find multiple on the harmful effects of alcohol. This is a beer website, I should provide those first.

There may not be any research out there saying visiting BeerAdvocate causes cancer.
But there's no research out there that says it DOESN'T cause cancer either! :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing:

I saw a blog once that said it might be a cancerous website. Something about how the black and yellow text interrupts your chi (which obviously is like steroids for cancer cells). I know it was legit because they put the scarier statements in bold, red, text.

Side note, my favorite canned BPA is A Little Crazy from Revolution (which you'd need to be in order to take extreme risks like leaving the house am I right, fellas?)

It's funny that people are posting Belgian Pale Ale recommendations in this thread. The real BPA has already diminished their functioning.

Cigarettes is probably one of the biggest examples of this.

Although, I'd be much more concerned about the health effects of the alcohol in beer than the BPA in the cans...

Seriously? Have we run out of things to worry about?

Preservatives in food are worse for you than the trace amount of BPA in a craft beer can liner. I do know a few local breweries that skipped out on cans for this exact reason, however.

Let's put things into perspective: too much sunlight gives you cancer. Water can kill you if you drink too much of it.

Cigarettes are a good example, although I should have said what recently was thought to be safe and isn't now. Cigarettes are also a good example because they peaked in use in the 60s, but the first warning labels were also put on their packaging in the 60s. It didn't take very long to realize they were detrimental to your health.

Diet Soda has been around since the 50s, the only warning label for cancer was on Sweet n' Low and it has since been removed because the studies were based on rats.

Your last point, is my main one. Alcohol is a far greater danger to your long term (and short term depending on use) health, unless it's in moderation. And by moderation, I mean one or two drinks per day. I highly doubt the majority of BAs adhere to this rule. If I'm not too concerned with having 4 beers in a sitting, I'm certainly not going to speculate about the ill effects the BPA lining MAY have on my health.

So we eat more natural, put on sunscreen or limit exposure time, we moderate water and we try to steer clear of all endocrine disrupters like BPAs. There should be little to no moderation when it comes to things that disrupt hormones. My opinion of course.

I think by the time you drank enough cans of beer for the BPA to have any effect on you, the effects of the beer would be worse. And why is this article only about craft beer, are macro beer cans BPA free?
