What are the best breweries to visit/ eat dinner at in Munich?
I'm here for the next 2 days

Der Pschorr has great food and beer served from the wooden barrel, but can be a bit touristy and/or pricy. For dinner the way Germans eat it (Abendbrot: usually some bread and cold cuts, sausages, and/or cheese), go to Augustinerkeller and put something together at the self-service counter; I think on Fridays the smoked mackerel kiosk is open, too. Augustinerkeller also has table service with a more formal menu and seating in a certain section of the Biergarten and, of course, beer from the wooden barrel.

I've always enjoyed the Löwenbräu Keller -- maybe a bit touristy, but it's a pretty cool spot with good food.

The Augustiner Bräustubn is my favorite brewery/pub in München... I love the Weisses Brauhaus, but it's not a brewpub anymore. Further afield is Forschungsbrau...

The Schneider Weisses Brauhaus? I didn't know that they ever brewed on site there.

It was the location of Schneider before WWII... Bombed out, it rebuilt as a restaurant with the brewing moved to Kehlheim.... The Weisses Brauhaus there is real good too...

Okay, that I knew (though I think they moved the brewing before WW2), but the way I read your first post I thought I'd missed some fresh(er) beer at the Brauhaus! :grinning:

    Great food there, though.

My recommendation would be the Hofbräukeller (not the Hofbräuhaus!, although that isn't as bad as its reputation) on the other side of the Isar. Here it is.
I've been there in winter, sitting inside. Great, relatively cheap food especially during lunch time. And another time I've been there in summer. Big, nice Biergarten, if you like you can bring your own food or pick it up at the counter.

Nice website. I was impressed they have a Kiddie Korner, too. The live webcam of the biergarten was creepy but still cool. It looks far less touristy and gemütlich than the HBhaus.

Nürnberger Bratwurst Glöckl Am Dom for a wurst fix washed down with lots of Augustiner Edelstoff vom holzfass!

Only 4 weeks away for me

Just be careful in that Biergarten -- there's an ozone hole over Munich and I'm pretty sure it's directly over that Biergarten! Got a helluva tan burn when I was there in the Spring some years ago! :grinning:

Why creepy? Too "big brother" for yeh? Funny, noon on a Friday and no one there. :astonished:
Definitely. It's a great alternative to the HB am Platzl.

Yes, it's just ok. You can do better. I'd rather eat at Ayinger am platzl (across from the Hofbrauhaus) because of their horseradish soup and their cask that they tap everyday at 5:00 or Andecheser am Dom (around the corner from your Spaten place.), it's a little nicer and the beer is awesome. +1 on Augustiner Bräustubn and I love Schneider Weisses Brauhaus for a eisbock nightcap and dessert.

I was going to say this too, but it's not a brewery scenario. Great place, delicious food.

Someone also mentioned Augustiner Braustubl (on Landsberger Landstrasse) - very good for both beer and food and lots of locals hang out here.

Yeah, the Aug Braustubn is very untouristed, imo. Super food, verrry fair prices, and Edelstoff vom Faß! Same for Forschungsbrau, plus: St Jakobus Blonder Bock! Which I think is one of the best biers around... Prosit!

One of my favourite spots in Munich, too.

It's Helles, not Edelstoff. Or at least was when I was there e a couple of weeks ago. Lovely stuff, mind. Threw itself down my throat in the hot weather.

    Great sausages, too.

The Paulaner brewpub in the old Thomasbräu building isn't bad. Decent food and OK beer.
