Just might. But you may want to have him walk with a limp and snarl...

I've done a few in-person trades. Both have been great, nice people.

My one piece of advice is if the trade is going to include extras (like most trades on BA), try to agree upon the terms beforehand. It is awkward enough sometimes when you either receive or send unbalanced "extras," think about how weird it would be in person....

Other than that, I'd recommend a kevlar vest, your cell phone with 911 already dialed in, and a gang of 15 of your closest friends.

I did some IP trades at beer releases. That would be the safer way to go.

Bonus points for bringing your trade beer in a locked suitcase.

If you're visiting a place and your searching for local beers IP trades are a good way to go- a local can hunt things down better than you and might be looking for harder to find beers from your own area.

Honestly, isn't doing an IP trade in public safer than giving your name and address to a stranger?

Meet in public, be on time, don't worry.

i have met a lot of cool people with ip trades. usually get together over a beer and hang out. ive got a few friends i met through ip trades and still trade regularly when looking for hard to trade for beers.

sometimes i dont feel like doing the work to track down a trade on the forums, and its easier to get the beers your looking for locally (and sometimes its not since you have a lot of the same beers). part of the reason i was able to nab up a kh

fun fact, my very first ip trade was with Nickd

For the longest time, alfrantzell thought you were an elaborate troll account I created to prank NickD. I'm not making this up.

(Has he finally met you? I think he might still believe it.)

More like if you don't do martial arts and have never been in a fight. There are no rules in fighting...being huge doesn't help that much either if you're not agile and don't know what you're doing. I've seen the type of guys that could be in a muscle magazine get their asses kicked by a guy you would've thought had 0 chance from judging books by their cover:wink:

Agreed. Things like size, strength, and speed can only help you if you know how to use them in a fight. I've seen dudes who are jacked get beaten up by dudes who are skin and bones. I've also seen fat out of shape dudes whoop on dudes who seemed to be in good shape. Never make an assumption about what will happen in a fight based on appearance.

Has anyone here ever been a fight or robbery at a beer trade? I hope nothing like that has ever happened.

Only a few times when this guy started blabbing about knowing martial arts and saying fighting prowess is far more important than freakish strength. He was thrown about 20 feet head first through a car window. All the while the group chanted Hulk Smash*

I do a fair bit of IP trades. I have BM'ed people out of the blue and have asked for recommendations from other BA's I have traded with before. That is usually a good thing when another BA says trade with this person, or that person.
As for extras I am in a different boat living abroad. I have done things like bought a beer or two for the person I am meeting, brought a local beer to give to them, or buy them lunch or an entree as an extra. T shirt or glass also work very well as an extra.
Where to meet?? try a damned brewpub, brewery tasting room, or a good bar/ pub with a good selection of beers. Some random street corner is not a good way to meet and build a potential trading relationship.
Just like a normal trade be on time and a good communicator. it is not always about the extras but the communication.
