I just had Avery's Kaiser imperial Octoberfest last night and that was just over the top, ridiculously awesome - everything good about Octoberfest x 10. Of course, a bomber of that is $10 and it's also like 10% abv so maybe not something you'd get all the time. For an every day selection, I'd go Great Divide Hoss Marzen, or just get the real deal and pick up some Paulaner (Hoss is year-round, though).

Their Marzen is year round and decent. They make a FestBier for their fall seasonal. Not a fan of that one. If I'm at their restaurants I will throw down Marzens and Hefes all day though, mmmm.

Great Lakes is easily my favorite, followed by Flying Dog's, and Highland's. I would say Olde Mecklenburg's, but that's really only available in Charlotte.

Nothing? Nothing but all the Oktoberfests from Munich -- let alone Wisconsin.

Don't get me wrong, Victory's is good, but it's not the end-all.

Great Lakes is #1 for me. Hooker (from O.P.'s home state of Connecticut) is a close second.

About five years ago, I was purchasing every Octoberfest brew I could get my hands on. My favorite at that time was Bell's. It's been a couple years since I looked for it. I didn't realize that they didn't bottle it last year.

    It's probably been a few years since I've had it--but I remember liking Gordon Biersch's a lot.

Also, sort of off-topic, but: I'm drinking Full Sail's Oktoberfest right now, and I'm not sure I'm on board. It's not bad, but seems pretty fruity, and not all that malty. Anyone else tried it?

Had some Penn Brewing over the weekend; liked it way better than the Sams. Last year's Weihenstephaner seemed to lack some flavor somehow. Haven't had any Germans yet this year, who know how to read a calendar.

If you don't care if the beer isn't exactly "to style" then Great Lakes makes imo the best October fest and it isn't even remotely close. But then again you can still taste hops in it and that's technically a bit off for the style and it isn't as sweet as some of the more "authentic" versions. I stand by it's better so who cares if they tool liberties. Others might disagree.
