Pictures will disappear

    One thing I've noticed is when we post pictures to the forums, we are required to upload to an outside host and imbed the image here, rather than uploading directly to BA servers. This means our photos will eventually go away and anybody reading the threads in 5 years will have no idea what we are talking about. This happened in a few other forums I've been a part of before. How to solve the problem: have users upload directly to BA servers.

    Tinypic, photobucket (unless you have an account), etc won't save pictures forever. They'll eventually wind up being those little blue ? marks.

    I upload all the pics through my photobucket account. So those shouldn't disappear. But anyone getting pics from google or whatnot will end up getting lost.

    Which is OK with us, because those are all copyrighted and the last thing we want to do is become an image storage server for copyrighted material. We'd also have to start moderating images on a daily basis as a result and look into upgrading disk space. Pass.

    I agree with that.. That's what photobucket or all those other sites are for.. I'm sure you guys have enough work as it is.

    Okay fair enough. What got me thinking was the 'latest hauls' thread. All of those pictures will disappear. And those aren't copyrighted photos... unless you try saying the labels on the bottles in the photos are copyrights, therefore the photo is illegal. Laws are getting out of hand.

    Unless people care enough about their pictures to create an account, then it's not "all."

    That said, in 5 years those threads will be pretty much irrelevant to the vast majority of site users anyway.

    Of course labels are copyright as is any other created work.But if the copyright owner places it in the public domain either formally or by implication than reproducing the images isn't illegal. I can't see why a brewery could object to a little free advertising through posting images of its products.
