There are plenty of 100 proof liquors out there that dont get banned due to overconsumption, I dont think this would be any different, would it?

i love a cold beer at the end of a hike just as much as the next guy, but there is a time and place for whiskey as well! smack-pacs of beer sounds like shit! a flask of 18 year old scotch on the other hand....

If you ever had pure ethanol, you'd not be wishing for it. And even that is only 96% pure.

I'm just thinking this would be so much more fun than a GU at the end of a race. Or in the middle...

I could only see this bing a value add to the consumer if it tastes as good as craft pale ales or black ales, but is half the price. $10 for a four pack is not half the price or even close. If you're a hiker it's not like a freeze dried meal where all you do is carry the lightweight and small amount of food to eat. This would still require you to lug around the same amount of liquid as normal beer.

    how so?
melt snow, or river water +UV. you would need to lug around the co2...

That's not the only issue. They claim it's a hassle to carry a large amount of beer due to weight and whatnot...yet you have to supply the water. So...unless you're willing to chance micro-organisms...or boil all that water before you use it...you're going to have to carry the same volume in water as you would beer.

But what if the OP likes Giardia? Then he doesn't have to bring the water and he can just sh*t himself for a month

Well, fair enough. Though, this is still only relevant if you are camping near a body of water...I guess you could stop for a beer every time you came across one.

Yup, that's pretty much the idea when you are in the backcountry. When you come across a water you refill your nalgene, camel back, platypus, or canteen, then when you aren't near water you have it to drink or make beer with (ok, I've never made beer in the backcountry, but with this snazzy new idea you could)

You know nothing of camping Jon Snow

it's more satisfying to carry canned beer. basically water weight and more delicious.
