I'd be out on BASS @ $50, I'd probably buy 1 @ $40 but that would be it. For me and my personal economics, $30 is the threshold for me on this (and almost all) beers.

One also has to consider the other factors in play.

1.) Scarcity has value. If there is no compulsion to act, people tend not to. It is hard to have a product so sought after that it requires overnight line-ups, third party agencies (BPT) to manage the release, etc.

2.) AleSmith recovers their costs in hours, not weeks/months. While it might be nice to have a premium offering available at the brewery (BA Numbskull), I can assure they would rather have everything sold through quickly. Carrying inventory costs money.

3.) Distribution sucks. It costs money to sell to the channel. It requires opening product for sampling, a cost not recovered by sales. You lose control over the message & ultimate price. Most often, it will be higher than your retail - but not always. A discounter, esp. one with an internet presence can irreparably damage a brand image.

I think what he was trying to say is what I was think when I see these types of threads. Just because something is against the law dosent mean everyone should get up in arms about it. I understand that it makes the beer harder to acquire but there is an element of doing this that is kind of the way business works. If you buy a pack of m and m's for a dollar and there is someone who offers you two dollars for it, and you take it, on a technical level that is illegal. Just think about the things that you do every day that are illegal. Imagine if you were driving 80 on the freeway and some guy was able to call the police and then that night the police came to your house and wrote you a ticket. You would be pissed but technically you deserve that ticket.

I'm a business owner, I have a very firm grasp of the concept of taking risks to make money. I'm not reporting anyone myself, but I also am not going to feel bad if someone gets fined for doing something that they'e not supposed to be doing, especially when they openly flaunt it on Facebook. If you take a considerable risk - which violation of ABC rules is what I would call a reasonably big risk - for the sake of not making much extra money, you either haven't done a good job of risk assessment, or you're comfortable with that level of risk for the sake of bringing people to your bottle shop and hoping they'll buy other products.

It apparently works well enough for Freddie and others, but I won't feel the slightest bit of pity for them if the ABC drops the hammer on them.

Here's hoping no one posts a link to report folks who violate UPS or FedEx rules about shipping alcohol.

I would love to hear how you "figured it out." Considering at the time you saw him "muling" you just saw someone buying beer.

Well, unless you witnessed someone buy the bottles, followed them to their store, watched them unload their trunk, and then price and stock them.

Do you work at Del Mesa or something?

And what made you change your tone about Del Mesa from back in February at the PtY release?

    Nah, bro.

AbuAiden liked the post too, maybe he does?

Well I wasn't aware of AbuAiden making comments about Del Mesa selling PtY from Toronado pours in February.

Given that AbuAiden's post in this thread disappeared rather quickly, I think that is a good possibility. Or maybe he's one of his mules.

"he will probably try and buy a few, bottle it, and sell it at del mesa."

Seems back in February you were well aware of the shady things going on at Del Mesa. Earlier in the thread you were defending them. Just seems odd considering you clearly know what's going on.

Back in Feb? Can you link me to the actual post versus a quote taken from it?

I'm really not sure why you're so skeptical. I saw the owner of Del Mesa (he told me he owned Del Mesa) buying a bunch of bottles at Alpine. About ten days later more than one bottle of Alpine popped up in their cooler with a hefty price tag. It doesn't take a genius to put two and two together. Are you happy with that story? If not, please oh please let me know what I can do to help you "figure it out."
