I left a little before 3pm, I headed to Hop Cat and found out I was 20 minutes too late to get a bottle of 2008 bcs.

I was able to try 7 different beers at this years Black Party, I don't think staying for KBS and CBS would have been a wise choice.

So jealous I couldn't get there this year, IPA's or not. If anyone wants to grab a growler of the Nilla porter, I can make it worth their time.

That's how every Black Party has been. It's not like they're going to sell those all day long. Every Black Party has had an awesome taplist like this.

Actually KBS was tapped at 5 and CBS at 545.

The Specialty tap list last year started right off with KBS, Black Biscuit, Nemesis and BA Imperial Stout, plus Syrup Del Noche and Bourbon Del Noche as a bonus. I believe the only one to run out while I was there from open to mid afternoon was the BA Imperial Stout (rightfully so). If that wasn't already amazing enough, CBS was a surprise tap much earlier in the day.

This year was a nice party with a nice tap list, but it doesn't hold up to past tap lists for me. I'm not entitled or even upset, just stating a fact based comparison and my personal preference on Black IPAs vs some of the best beers I've ever had on tap at the same time...

I'll have to say I enjoyed the Black IPA as well as the BA Black IPA the most. I got to try CBS FINALLY, but was a little too far gone to enjoy it by the time it hit the tap list... :slight_frown: Had a WONDERFUL time though! Met some new friends and had some great food/beer!

Glad I didn't waste my time going up there. Sounds like everything worth drinking was stuff already in my cellar anyway. Kinda a bummer they didn't bring out a Black Biscuit, BA Imperial Stout, or one of the Mountain Brown varieties....

Founders in another lose lose situation. A billion people over hype the fuck out of KBS then a bunch of people get butthurt at that release... Then Founders doesn't release a pre list of beers for their black party, people don't see what they think they should, then they all bitch and moan. I don't blame founders at all. Everyone seems to think they deserve this or that...

End of rant. I have a lot more to say but I'm not gon a waste my time.

Seems as though as Founders has gotten more popular, they have had to adjust the Black Party taplist.

In 2010, '09 and '10 KBS, KBS nitro, CBS, BB impy stout, and other great brews like Death, Citra Black, and the del Noche's were all on tap ALL DAY. Last year, '11 KBS was on tap all day along with Frangelic Stout, Imperial Stout, and some other decent things, and CBS was tapped at 2 or 3, lasting a half hour. This year, it appears that it was even more different.

Question for the BA's who went this year: how was the crowd compared to previous years? Were there more people? Estimate?

I don't know what Founders can do in this situation, honestly. They have set a standard that will always be ridiculously difficult to live up to. I am slowly coming to realize that the 2010 Black Party may go down as the best single-day taplist I have ever seen.

Sounds like you have some butt hurt as they have done this same exact party for the past 3 years.

People expect the best of the best from one of the top breweries in the nation. Don't you think that Founders wants that hype? Even here in Chicago, I considered driving 3+hours to go to the event just for the chance to try Black Biscuit, Mountain Browns, or the BA Imperial Stout. The bar is set high because Founders delivers.

Heck I just cracked a KBS and am laughing that I just had probably the best thing on tap and saved myself a 6+ hour drive round trip.
