brewpubs & breweries are always considered for any vacation or business trip. and a spouse who enjoys visiting brewpubs & breweries as much as you make for a very happy vacation. and marriage.

Does going to the Ommegang BCTC count? I spent a two nights there two weeks ago. Aside from a special Brewery event like that, I don't think I'd vacation specifically for beer.

When we were living in Miami, my girlfriend wanted to visit her grandmother up in Sebastian for a weekend so, of course, I had to turn it into a mini brewery tour. On our way up we hit Tequesta, which was meh. Once we were up there, Melbourne was only another half hour north so we went and visited Florida Beer Co. where we had some samples and I got a free glass. Then, on the way back down, we hit Due South which was definitely the best of the three. Got a growler of Bodacious Blonde and a snifter. Good times.

In the 1990's I went to Denver from Chicago just to drink beers at the GABF. Sigh.... great times.

Yes, my wife and I along with 5 other friends just got got from Asheville. We stayed in Savannah for a night then spent 2 nights in Asheville. Lots of cool places to check out up there. Wicked Weed was really impressive, and we stayed at the aloft, half block down from there.

I don't necessarily plan vacations for beer but any time we go on trips or are traveling through areas I immediately check out the area to see if there are any local breweries. My wife often gets pissed but usually she is a good sport. Just yesterday we went to Birmingham with my wife's parents for the day to go shopping and for dinner. I was able to convince the family that we needed to go to Good People and Avondale between shopping. I was pretty proud of that accomplishment.

Anymore beer is the main reason I leave town. I still call it a beer run though.

I'm probably not the only BA member who'll say this but here goes. I've been to Portland, OR so many times just so I could geek out on the fine beers made in this city.

The ONLY reason me and my wife went to Prague was to drink beer; and we'll return soon to do the same damn thing.

No. But since I vacation in Colorado each year, it's a win-win.

No, but in the case of a tie between possible destinations beer is always the tie-breaker.

It depends on the definition of try "a beer" and "vacation".

I have taken trips to go to breweries/brewpubs in Seattle, Portland, Chicago and Milwaukee and Denver but not for just one specific beer. Also in Seattle, Chicago, Milwaukee and Denver we caught a baseball game.

I have driven down to San Diego to try Churchill's Finest Hour as the only reason for the trip and only thing I did there but it's only an hour away but that's the farthest I've driven to find "a beer".

Oh lord, please do not use iPhone's native maps app. You could end up like me: 2 miles down what was essentially a creek bed.

I've spent around 9 nights in Portland all told and not seen anything other than brew pubs and bars.

Is there anything else to see or do ?

Absolutely. The Chinese Garden is great, as is the Japanese garden. I like wandering/shopping on SE Hawthorne. Mission Theater is a great place to have a pint and go see a movie. You can catch a game at PGE park on west Burnside. Sometimes, I like to hang out at Mt. Tabor park where they've got great views of the rest of the city.

My gps brought us from FT drum Ny thru the Canadian customs checkpoint, which was fun while they Checked my car took my wife's pepper spray, and then the fun. My gps died in Quebec on a new toll road, the signs were French, help at the gas station didn't speak English , I didn't have any Canadian money but they take check cards. Saw a sign to ny and said fuck it I can deal with that more do than driving around Mtl. Added at least 1 1/2 hours to Waterbury.

Cooperstown for Ommegang, but that was folded into a visit to the Baseball HOF. Or was it the other way around...
