Yea agreed, I just picked up a bottle to and coconut must be hidden somewhere still in the brewery. It is however a good IPA, just kind of disappointed theres not coconut.

Even after letting the beer warm up, I had to work damn hard to detect even a trace of coconut in the aroma or flavor. Decent enough IPA, but disappointing for the almost complete lack of any kind of coconut character.

Good IPA but no coconut. Feel guilty charging what we are charging for it given that...

Maybe coconut wasn't an actually ingredient in this beer. Seems as most didn't pick it up. I didn't. Had a tropical hop profile to it, it was a decent beer. I think it feel short of what most people imagined. I've heard the homebrewed version had less hops, and more coconut. Doesn't always correlate to the larger scale, so it's understandable.

Different esters and phenolics are translated to different flavors.. Buttered popcorn.. diacetyl.. Not an added flavor to a beer, but people pick it up because the actual chemical IS added to things because it taste like butter..

RIS aren't brewed with leather, and dark fruits usually... But the profiles of malts and age, will cause the phenolic flavors to pop that people pick up. Perhaps a fist full of coconut doesn't really come through enough for most people that wanted a "coconut beer".

Yeah, I detected almost zero coconut in this as well. Good IPA, but definitely not what I was expecting. Highly disappointed. :slight_frown:

Seriously. People ask me what I think of an IPA and I just say "smells like hops". WTF when people smell pine and citrus. It's just hops. Smells like hops. Smells like malt. There is NO citrus in the beer and certainly no pine needles! I hate it when people talk too. Stop talking. I'm drinking a beer. Tastes like beer.

Had it last night on draft in Virginia. A little coconut in the aroma, but otherwise I didn't get any in the taste. I can say however it's a good IPA, and certainly worth the purchase for that fact, but otherwise not really what the name implies.

I had it and I liked it. Could use more coconut (or even just some coconut) but it has a nice tropical fruit hop character. It's a good IPA, but not a good coconut beer.

I really enjoy this IPA. Very subtle toasted coconut flavor.

Drinking it right now. No coconut in the scent whatsoever, but a freshly cracked open yet mild sensation of one after each gulp. Would have loved way more coconut in this! Nice lager base though.

imo coconut wasn't noticable. if i didn't know it was their i would have never guesses it, although i think it may have added a bit of sweetness an mouthfeel.

Man, after reading so many comments, reviews and watching reviews I was sure I wouldn't get any coconut.

I did. I thought a toasted coconut presence was very present on the nose, but in the taste I got more of a sweetness than actual coconut flavor. The hop bill sure doesn't taste tropical fruit-esque to me. I get some pine, grassy notes, a bit or orange and melon. It's certainly a different IPA. Maybe people haven't been drinking this warm enough? I do know I've heard there can be a lot of bottle variation from Stone so perhaps that's it. I definitely got coconut though. Certainly doesn't taste like that artificial bullshit coconut.

Not trying to defend the beer, but I got the coconut and I'm happy about that. I will say that Ryan's homebrew version sounded a hell of a lot better than this tasted though. Interesting take on an IPA. Cheers everyone!

Well, I didn't. Had it twice now and let it warm up from cold each time, and no coconut. Neither my wife nor I could taste any. That's not to say we didn't enjoy the beer as an IPA, we did, but I'm not buying any more when there's still some RuinTen, 17th, and new EnjoyBy on the shelves. Looking forward to the next collaboration.

One thing has become quite clear to me: tasting coconut must be an awful lot like picking up the stinky smell in your piss when you've eaten asparagus.

FWIW, I am in the "picked up subtle coconut flavor" camp. I think it might have been gross had it been too much coconut, though - this isn't a stout or porter.

I had my second one last night, and realize now that it is a pretty subtle coconut presence. I drank another, lighter IPA before hand, and that was enough to take away most of the coconut flavor. When I had it before, it was my first and only beer of the night, and it was much more noticeable. Either that, or like others have said, there may be bottle variations...

Subtle on the nose and on the finish.I enjoyed.
