Pumpkin beer recommendations?

Any pumpkin beer that waits until after August to release.

 

I've had all of the front runners and a local favorite SpringHouse "Brains", but I think Pumking is the one to beat. I've changed flight plans to enjoy this on draft.

 

Williamsburg Pumpkin Ale-I got it as an extra and alongside barrel aged stouts and Cantillon and KRBC Citra, it's one of my favorite beers.

 

Pumking was one of 2 beers I've ever poured down a drain. It was extremely unpleasant. i don't know what taste was putting me off but I have a feeling it's actually the quality of the water used in the beer, because many of the beers from that brewery taste the same to me in an equally unpleasant way.

 

I'd tell you again to try CBC, but you'd probably ignore the suggestion... again.

As for witbier, stay away from Long Trail--there's so much coriander in it, you can make a Thai curry around it.

Pipeworks hinted on here a few weeks ago they'll make a pumpkin beer this fall. And then it will be the best pumpkin beer I've ever had.

Rogue FRESH PUMPKINS straight from the brewery... that's how it should be none of this artificial flavor. Most Breweries are all about the $. Rogue cares about there brews and it damn well shows.

 

I personally enjoy River Horses' Hip-O-Lantern and of course my big favorite is Southern Tier's Pumking. Already had a bottle of Southern Tier and can't wait until I get my next bottle sometime next week

 

OK, plenty of patterns emerging here, including many people suggestion ST Pumking--likely more than any other, although this was strictly a qualitative observation--and a number of those who tried this year's version complaining that it's not the same (although no one has been able to articulate quite what the problem is--and not for lack of trying). One would have to take a close count to rank the rest of the contestant, but another thing that emerged is considerable homerism for 80+% of pumpkin beers that are not widely distributed, which means that most calls for comparison will go unanswered. Unfortunate, really, but cie la vie. I'm still going to challenge others to come up with pumpkin beers that are neither sweet nor resemble pumpkin pie in flavor profile. So far that query has been ignored.

 

Gotta vote for Schlafly. The only pumpkin beer I can drink anytime.

Sure would like to try Pumking. Too bad it's like trying to find a unicorn around here.
