Nice. I have a 1.5L from 2007 that I really should've drank by now. Just never seem to come across the right opportunity.

This is wine of course, and it is in fact a real, full, bottle.....

To the best of my knowledge, no Champagne house, or brewer has ever done a bottle larger than a Nebuchadnezzar, but I've been wrong before.

We had a Nebuchadnezzar of a sparkling wine at a store I worked at in college. The crate it came with, in addition to the wood-shavings etc. for cushioning, had a support for the neck, midway between the shoulder and top.

It was a cheap sparkling wine too. If you did the math, and purchased cases of the 750mls, you could get OVER twice the volume for the same price.... people love a good novelty though.

I actually have 6L bottles of Val Dieu Grand Gru and Val Dieu Tripel in stock at our warehouse now. They retail around $220. I really want to find a reason to order one on my house account.

The real reason for these is twofold...

1. Larger volumes of liquid are believed to be better for aging.
2. A huge bottle in a shop is like free advertising.

The way I understand it, the bottle alone for a 9L costs almost $100 to the brewer/winemaker. I know I usually see the St Fueillien 9L bottles in the $280 area round these parts.

The 6L bottle is 100 euro at the brewery. They only make them once in a while and they are pretty quick sold out. Most Belgian beer shops that have them sell them at 120 euro. Pretty expensive though!

Yeah, Prairie mentioned on that same Facebook post that bottle itself cost $100 in response to someone asking how much the 9L bottle was going run at their next event.

Friend has one of those. He actually got it from his wife as a present for them having there first child. Weird cause I never got a present when my kids were born, but I always bought my wife one. He does have a really cool wife.

Yeah - I was speaking of the Alllagash bottles specifically. Maybe I have my sizes mixed up though. All I know is I want a 6L Curieux.

We have a Taittinger Nebuchadnezzar at our store, $1649.00 with crate, shavings et al. Almost without exception, with wine, the larger the format, the better the wine. They always fill the larger bottles first, always. As for beer, this past January I opened a 3.0L Stone 15th Anniversary; may have waited too long to open, nose was a little odd, but it was delicious![IMG][/IMG]

I sell beer for a distributor that carries Piraat. I was speaking with their head brewer about large format bottling when he was in the US several months ago. I recall him mentioning that the glass for a 15L bottle costs him somewhere in the range of $350US. He ships almost all of them to a guy in Japan who turns around and sells them for $1500US.

Here are the 6 liters I've had. I also have a full 6 liter Allagash Curieux set aside for Zwanze Day this year.

One of these days, I should take pictures of the 3 liters on the wall as well. I've got an empty 9L St. Feuillien (too tall for the shelves). I'm trying to figure out how to get a 15 liter Bon Seceurs back from Brussels in October.
