The Verbal Games: Mad Lib Edition

In keeping with my tradition of making things fun yet challenging in BIFs, I’ve devised a series of BIFs that revolve around word games. So, I present to you THE VERBAL GAMES: MAD LIB EDITION.

    How to Play

Here’s how it works. Below, I’ve written a story but have left out 13 words or numbers (as seen in red and underlined). I’ve provided the type of word I am looking for to be filled in (e.g. noun, verb, etc.). The game is split into two: Build and Vote.

    Build

As a sender, here’s what you need to do for the Build portion of the mad lib.

    1. Fill in those blanks with words you find in 12 beer names and 1 piece of brewery glassware.
    2. Brewery names on the bottles do not count. Only names on the glassware counts.
    3. You can use multiple words from the beer name if you want but those words will only count towards on blank. For instance, if you wanted to use Arrogant Bastard as an exclamation, that only counts as one.
    4. One bottle per blank. You cannot use the same bottle for multiple blanks.
    Build Requirements

    1. As a participant, you will ship the 12 bottles and 1 glass to the target you are assigned. The minimum requirement is 144 oz. and 1 glass. There is no maximum; however, you are limiting it to 12 bottles. In your shipment, please include a slip that has the following so the target knows what words are placed where in the story.
      1. Noun
      2. Adverb
      3. Verb
      4. Exclamation
      5. Number
      6. Adjective
      7. Verb
      8. Past Tense Verb
      9. Noun
      10. Noun
      11. Plural Noun
      12. Verb ending in ING
      13. Adjective
    2. The minimum rating for the beer to be shipped must be no lower than an 85 BA Score.
    3. The timeframe for this portion of the game is a total of three weeks once the list of contestants is confirmed. The first two weeks are for contestants to search for bottles that can be plugged into the story. The third week is the shipping window. Once all participants are confirmed, the dates will be set in stone.
      1. Try to keep the list of bottles to your target’s style wants.
      2. REMEMBER: 85 BA or higher.
    Vote

Once all packages have been received and all hauls along with words have been posted to the Hints and Hauls thread (to be made shortly after list is confirmed), the Vote portion of the game begins.

I will post all 20 versions of the mad libs that senders constructed. Each story will be added as a separate post in the Vote thread (to be built upon receipt of all packages). To vote:
    1. All a BA member has to do is ‘Like’ whatever story (post) they deem humorous, clever, etc.
    2. A BA member may vote on as many posts as they like.
    3. The BA community has 7 days to vote.
    4. Any BA member may vote, this is not limited to just the participants (so feel free to solicit).
After 7 days of voting, the top 5 contestants (senders) with the most likes on their stories will be declared winners.
    1. The other 15 contestants will then have to send a minimum of 44oz to their designated target. If you want to send more, go for it.
    2. The breakdown of boxes per winner is as follows:
      1. 1st: 5 boxes
      2. 2nd: 4 boxes
      3. 3rd: 3 boxes
      4. 4th: 2 boxes
      5. 5th: 1 box
    3. The winner will be given the option of choosing their senders in order of rank (e.g. 1st gets to pick the 5 senders he/she wants first, 2nd gets to choose 4 senders, so on and so forth).
    4. The 15 contestants will have a 2 week shipping window once the voting has been ended and the winners have selected you as their sender.
    Game Requirements

    1. 20 participants will be selected to participate in the games.
    2. You must have at least 1 trade and/or BIF under your belt to participate.
    3. Beers sent must have an 85 BA score or higher.

    What to Expect from Me

Once I’ve found 20 participants, I will create the 1st Hints and Hauls thread for the games. I will post the list of participants in that thread as the first post. I will then send out each person’s targets name and address. Once all 20 packages are received, I will create a second thread dedicated to voting. After 7 days of voting have ended, I will then tally them up and declare the winners. Once winners have been selected, I will notify each winner to select their sender(s) from the list of contestants that didn’t win. Once I get that list, I will notify each of the 15 who their target is and provide them with an address to ship to.

Do You Dare to Join the Games

So, are you up for playing in the games? If so, here’s what I need from you.
    1. Send me a BM with your name and address. Include trade partners or BIFs for reference.
    2. Be as creative and funny as you can be. The better the story turns out, the more votes you get and the more beer you can receive.
    3. Make sure you can work within the scheduled timeframe. Assume that the contest will begin this Friday and all boxes will need to be shipped three weeks from then. The timeframe is key to this game.
    4. Plan on sending out up to a minimum of 188oz (minimum of (12) 12ozers for the story and (2) 22ozers for the winners of voting) plus one piece of glassware.
    5. Update your wants and gots. And put in your profile what your style wants are.
And, without further ado, here’s the story.

    The Story

They say that drinking too much is a bad idea and now I know why.

The other night, my friend Tom and I decided to go out to the local pub, the Rusty NOUNfor a few beers. I thought I’d start out ADVERBand VERBa few pints of beer. Imagine my surprise when in walked our buddy, Jim. EXCLAMATION! I yelled. Without hesitation, I bought another round of beer for all of us.

Three hours later, after polishing off NUMBERpints, we all really started to feel it. It was at this point things got ADJECTIVE. One buddy tried to VERBsome guy, I PAST TENSE VERBin the bar’s NOUN, and we had to call a NOUNto get home.

Next thing I know, I’m waking up at 3 in the afternoon. It felt like a herd of PLURAL NOUNwere VERB ENDING IN INGin my head. But it was worth it to have such a(n) ADJECTIVEnight.

It has to have some sort of wording/numbering on it so you can fit the word into the story. For glassware, brewery names are okay.

Already sent a join request, but can I make a few suggestions (although this is nicely thought out as it is)?

-Perhaps it should be 85 or better BA score and/or a certain rAvg score for beers without enough ratings. 3.8 or so is the current equivalent of an 85, but perhaps set it at 3.9 or above for those without enough ratings to account for some uncertainty.

-While community voting will probably work alright, there's always the chance of voter fraud, politicking, etc. Perhaps a committee formed of some of the best/funniest BA's could be the judges? Those nominated/winners of BA of the year? Just a thought.

-A list of the beers submitted along with the completed madlib, so that fit/humor AND quality of boxes is judged simultaneously (providing more incentive for good boxes).

1st and 3rd suggestion are definitely doable and I'll adjust the rules accordingly. I like the 2nd idea, just not sure we could convince enough of the BA nominees to vote. I'd definitely do it if I could get enough judges. Will incorporate 1 and 3 now. If we can gather interest, will revise rules to include 2.

    Thanks for the suggestions Auror!

As Auror suggested in the previous post (and since I can't edit my OP), here are some minor modifications to the original rules:

    1. Beer sent must have a BA Score of 85 or an rAvg of 3.9 or higher.
    2. When posting hauls in the as yet to be created Hints and Hauls thread, a full list of beer received (picture would be nice) along with the words for the madlib. I will include all this information in the voting thread. Senders will then be judged on both madlib content/originality/humor and quality of beer sent.
Just to make it clear, participation is a must in the Hints and Hauls thread.

I'll save you all some time. There is no beer with the word "trombone" in it.

Budget says no, schedule says no, wife says NO!
I'm probably in, I'll let you know in a day or two.
If I don't get my act together in time and the spots are all filled,
I'll volunteer as a judge if you go that route and need one.

Budget now or in three weeks? You can do it!!!

Either way, would love to have you participate as either contestant or judge.

I'm pretty much where Zekeman17 is on this. I'd gladly judge, but will have to wait until at least after this weekend to see if I can make this not be financially idiotic to decide whether I'm in or not.

Totally understand. Depending on how fast people sign up, the registration for this may run into next week. Got 6 so far but still need another 14. Might even drop number down to 15 participants if we can garner enough interest.

Edit: completely understand where you and Zeke are coming from. Been holding off on BIF participation lately due to various reasons. Just recently came out of my BIF hiding hole.

Also, I can't do another BIF for awhile, but I will keep my eye on this one.
