Nope, I wouldn't ask for anything. Speaking for myself, I'd feel like a bad host asking others to fork over $ to drink some of my beer no matter the price I paid. The beer always seems to taste a little better among the company of friends anyway.

I would not in this case but if I was hosting a tasting and providing all of the beers and they were on the more expensive side, I might ask for some sort of compensation whether it's cheese or zjs

If they take care of you when they have tastings, I would do the same back. If they don't take care of you, then I would charge them.

I think if they brought some food to share, all is well. That's like 60 bucks tops. Don't be a cheap ass.
    Otherwise drink them yourself.

    No, absolutely not.

However, I would certainly be happy if they brought over some beer or food of their own.

If you invite others over, then you're the host, plain and simple. There's no cover charge for friendship.

Agree, if it is with friends that would do the same for me then I wouldn't even think twice. Definitely no charging.

If I want to keep them as friends, no. As a friend, no. So, no.

If some friends and I decided we wanted to do a tasting of X beer and one of us had to get all of the beers together then we should split it evenly. If I buy beers on my own and then invite some friends for tasting then no way would I ask for anything.

When you have a BBQ, do you charge friends for hot dogs and hamburgers?

Also, could you do a vertical of 120 by yourself? Of course not.

Must be a slow day on BA for topics like this.

I wouldn't charge them, sharing is caring. I also wouldn't invite people who don't appreciate special beers.
Unless, of course, they wanted to come and try some special beers. I'd say: "As long as you keep an open mind, come on by and enjoy your first taste of very special beer."
They might hate it, so I'd keep something else to drink around as well.

Nope, you have to be a huge cheapass to ask for money for a tasting that you WANT to do. It's like saying hey I'm running to the store, want to come? Then asking them to chip in for the gas.

    No.

Not because they're friends, but because I would rather, and have, given away 120 in lieu of drinking that swill.

I spent 10 whole bucks a year, or around 20 cents a month so yeah I would def charge. I mean it took me like forever to find all those dimes on the ground.

No - normally when we have vertical tastings etc, everyone contributes something. And even if they don't that day, you know they will contribute another day with some tasty treats. I'm fortunate to have a great group of friends who get together to share beers and good times. Had a tasting last Saturday and can't wait for the next one!

    Eh, no.

Then again, the people I drink with all have equally or much greater cellars than mine and we all share beers. The general rule of thumb when a whale tasting is thrown is that in order to get in you must provide atleast 1 whale. Some people also bring food to nosh on throughout the tasting. If everyone is ponying up beer and in some cases food as well, charging is just weird.

That said, I have a 'financially challenged' friend who constantly reaps the benefit of my cellar cleanings. He knows how much the bottles are worth (in both money and trade value) and does feel somewhat guilty about sitting down with me and helping me clean stuff out. I know how much beer I have, and how much will go bad if it does not get drunk in a timely fashion. Unfortunately I only have one liver and its far too much to drink by myself, so to make room for more beer I (like alot of people on BA with large cellars) require others to help out.

The notion of charging friends to drink is kind of mind blowing. I mean, shit, did/do you charge people to come over your place and play video games or watch TV at your place?
