From everything I've had from DEBC so far... this will be amazing! One of my favorite styles... and barrel aged at that!

I figured they would be doing something like this after seeing 15 barrels at the brewery on Saturday. Glad to hear what the plan is.

Howdy folks! Drew from DEBC here.
Yes, our Barrel Aging program is officially underway. The barrel aged barleywine (to be named) will be blended with a fresh batch before release early next year. The idea is that each year's release (yes, it will be a vintage offering, not in the regular rotation) will be blend of (barrel) aged and fresh to get the best qualities of the best barleywines in the same beverage.
Also, for the record this is a decidedly American Barleywine:
Pale Ale Malt, Munich Malt, Crystal Rye Malt, White Wheat Malt and Raw Cane Sugar
    Summit, Willamette and Chinook hops
    English Ale yeast
    ABV: Still in process
    IBUs: 80-90

The most important question is... will it be bottled?

They have a serious hard on for rye.

And will Houston get some? And if bottled will it be offered in 750ml's or 12oz singles?

    I <3 Rye barrels.
Thank you DEBC for making one of my favorite styles and please keep pumping out new, good brews.

Hello. Obviously Drew knows better than I, so he'll correct me, but they do have a bottling line now. If I am not mistaken they plan on doing 12 oz bottles for their regular line up. They did bomber bottles of Dreamcrusher and Cherry Chocolate Double Stout by hand recently, and I don't think they want to go through that again. And they do plan on bottling part of the barrel aged series.

Now, someone who knows better than me will explain if you need a separate bottling line (equipment) for 22 oz bottles as opposed to 12 oz bottles. Or if you just run them in different batches at different times. In any case, that's what the lads at DEBC have told me up to now.

Hey Drew, I hereby nominate the barrel aged series as "Coop's Stash". He'll know what I mean.

I haven't seen too much in Houston as far as Deep Ellum is concerned, but what I have had was pretty solid, and this sounds awesome.

Regarding bottles, yes we have acquired a bottling line (from our friends at Short's, no less). We're still working on getting the supporting infrastructure in place, artwork, approvals and pricing for packaging. There should be 6 and 4 packs of 12oz bottles out sometime this summer. For the time being there are no plans to return to large format bottles, but in the longer term they will likely return on some level TBD.

IMO 4 packs of higher abv or special release beer is way better than bombers.

While I'm posting in this thread I'll go ahead and mention that I'm finishing up the first brew of Wealth & Taste, a Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale brewed with Pilsner, Wheat & Dark Munich malts, Magnum, Palisade & Liberty hops, a dash of Grapefruit Peel, chamomile & rose hips & lots of Muscat grape juice. This batch will be aged in Chardonnay barrels for a couple of months and blended with a fresh batch before release this summer.

You send us Karbach and No Label and we can ship you Peticolas and Deep Ellum. Sound fair?

I've seen random No Label and Karbach kegs around but agreed that we need more of them.
