Yeah I'm not sure you need to be that precise enough about it to need to measure the temp of poured beer. Let it sit out for 10 to 15 min and drink it slow enough to allow it to warm up as I drink it.... That's is I care to taste the beer over a full range if temps....

Bout the same here.....I take it out of my cellar, which averages 45-50 degrees, pour it into a glass and sip. If it tastes too cold, I let it sit. If it tastes too warm, I put it in the fridge for 10 minutes...

It's not a joke. It's true that one can take a bottle out of the fridge for ten minutes and the temp
will be about right. But there are a lot of fluctuations in temperature.
    It's mostly for experimenting.

I would very much enjoy seeing someone order a 10 dollar pint of craft beer at a bar only to stick a thermo in the glass. WOULD MAKE MY DAY

some people are way too serious about the serving temperature of beer.

but if they are that serious, it is worth knowing that infrared thermometers measure surface temp only. if you really need to know if your cask imperial double smoked belgian ipa is at the drinking proper temp, a laser thermometer will not get you within the 0.2 degrees you need.

I'm not sure if any of my wine enthusiast friends have gone that far (that I know of). I agree with mylar's suggestion.

I've seen it done (though not in a $10 pint!) quite frequently. An inspector from Cask Marque calls in unnanounced and takes a pint from each pump. Each pint is checked and graded for condition and temperature is one criterion.
In fact Cask Marque was forced to raise the acceptable temperature as many drinkers thought the beer to be too cool.
Cask Marque isn'r Big Brother by the way , the pubs and clubs pay them for this scrutiny and if the beer is good enough they can display an accredited plaque.
Love it when they drop in, there are always untouched pints to be had after they have been

Cask Marque has an interesting app for smart phones in the UK. An app like this would work well in the US.
