    Hey guys,

I have a friend who is a pilot. One of his layovers next month takes him to the Club Quarters in what I assume is downtown SF. Address is 424 Clay Street. I am hoping he can get some Russian River, but I don't want to make this a hassle for him. He obviously won't have a car, so are there any places within a 15-20 minute walk of this location that would have RR?

    TIA

City Beer Store or Ale's Unlimited are both a couple miles away, so like 10 minutes each way in a cab if you'll throw some cab fare his way

Bit if you're looking for Pliny (like most who post with RR inquiries) it's certainly not a definite either store would have it. City beer routinely has some RR sours, but for Pliny and blind pig you kind have to get lucky.

Do you have any recommendations? Getting Pliny and some sours would be ideal, but it's not the end of the world.

Dumb question: How hard is it to get a cab and do something like this? Small town Wisconsin guy with no big city cab experience.

Depends on when you try to get a cab. Friday and Saturday nights are tough. But the hotel can call a can for your buddy. Try Cask on 3rd and Market - they usually have Pliny in stock. It's walkable from Club Quarters, but a bit of a hike. He can also pay $2 and jump on any of the buses heading south towards Market.

Getting a cab is usually fairly easy. What day of the week is his layover? That will be a factor in his chances of getting some pliny. Thursdays are your best chance.

Thanks for the help so far. I'll have to check what day the layover is. Does Pliny sell out on a regular basis every time it hits shelves? Are there any RR beers that are guaranteed to be there?

Best bet would be to call the store ahead of time to check availability and see if maybe they'd hold some for him.

Yes and no, unfortunately except for maybe a few outliers, but I don't know who they would be.

My office is two blocks from the Club Quarters and I could easily get you what you need in a nice styro 12-bottle box for him to check. We can set up a time for me to hand them off to your buddy. Just BM me and we can set that up.

That said, if you want more options downtown, Cask usually has Consecration, Supplication and Damnation, and then Pliny and Pig often but not always. A brand new place called Beer Hall (http://www.thebeerhallsf.com/) just opened at Market and Polk street, so it is an easy BART or Muni ride if he wants to skip the cab. I haven't been yet but it is a bottle shop with taps much like City Beer.

Cabs are plentiful downtown and will not be a problem. There is another hotel across the street from Club Quarters that will have them waiting typically too.
