Got a six pack of Stillwater Classique yesterday - in cans, even. Very nice stuff.

Surly CynicAle is in 4 packs of 16 oz cans. I know, not a 6 pack, big whoop... Still roughly the me amount of beer, minus a few ounces.

    Lift Bridge Farm Girl
    New Holland Golden Cap
    Magic Hat séance
Two Brothers Domaine DuPage, if want to include bière de garde

I've often wondered about this too. Ingredient-wise, saisons can be brewed cheaper than IPA's with a similar ABV. They don't take longer to ferment either as long as the primary temps are turned up a little. Wouldn't mind seeing more 16oz cans of saison personally.

You might be interested in knowing that Stillwater has ‘labeled’ this beer as being a Post Prohibition style Ale.

Below is a more detailed description of Classique from the Stillwater brewer/owner Brian Stumke:

“…it's just a tasty dry hoppy beer brewed with corn, rice, pils, and a boatload of old school American hops.. and fermented ala Stillwater style”

    Cheers!

Yeah - still drinks like a saison to me. He also says about it, "the beer is built upon the classic American industrial beer with a Franco-Belgian twist" and that he made it with "no concern with ale, lager, or style for that matter." So it's a hybrid beer of sorts, I guess. I think people who like saisons would like it.

Edit: Here's where I got those quotations - good interview: http://www.dcbeer.com/news/where-are-my-premium-cans-interview-stillwaters-brian-strumke

Factoring in cost, availability, and taste, there's really nothing that beats GI Sofie. So delicious. So cheap (for what it is).

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Mother's yet. They have a pretty wide distribution and they make a saison, Spring Batch, that comes in six packs. For a reasonable price too, if I remember correctly.

They only have limited/regional distro in Rhode Island according to SeekABrew, but they have full distribution to Massachusetts.

But I'm partial to the idea of buying two four-packs of Hennepin or Tank 7, then just having two "extras".

Santa Fe Brewing Company released a 25th anniversary saison earlier this summer and it sells in cans for $7-8 bucks a sixer. It's a tasty beer and for the price a great deal. I'm not sure how far they distribute, although I know Kansas City gets their beer, and I imagine CO, AZ, and TX. So do give it a try.

Do you know of any specific places in KC that have/had it? I hadn't seen that one on shelves yet. I usually like Santa Fe's brews.

Hmmm, when I go to the seekabrew website it indicates that Mother’s is only available on Kansas and Missouri.

Plus the Saison is a seasonal (spring).

    Cheers!

Yeah, I have to say that the main reason I don't drink Saisons is that there's no reason for them to cost what they do. They should be available in six-pack form, for 7 bucks.

Unfortunately, I can't help you there. I just know that KC for some odd reason gets a lot of SF Brewing beers. A few months back the brewery announced they were going to brew a special beer only to be found in the KC market. Did you ever find that?

Also, they released an Oud Bruin and a Kriek this year ($20+ per bottle), have you found either? I had the Kriek and really enjoyed it. I've yet to see the Oud Bruin anywhere but the brewery so that may not ever make it your way, but if you find the Kriek, definitely jump on it.

What other SF Brewing do you see? Imperial Java Stout? Pils? Happy Camper? Oktoberfest?

I've seen Imperial Java, Freestyle Pils, Happy Camper IPA and the Irish Red. Pretty much most of their canned stuff. But part of the problem might be that I'm not looking for SF in bottles section.

Well that is downright baffling. I guess I must've accidentally changed the selection while looking. The closest in the dropdown list that has the distribution I thought I was looking at is Moylan's. Sigh. Perhaps I should drink less before looking at SeekaBrew.

I knew it was seasonal, and I think it just came out this year for the first time, as I added it to BA a few months ago.

But now I'm less surprised that it hadn't been mentioned yet :-).

They're kinda the same idea behind a beer and Southampton makes an excellent Biere de mars but all of the Biere de mars I've had are a lot maltier and not as carbonated as the Saisons that I've imbibed.
