?

Do I drink a 2010 KBS without a new bottle for comparison?

Obviously I will drink it at some point. But, here is my "dilemma". A few months ago I received a bottle of 2010 and 2011 KBS in a trade. I eventually gave away the 2011 in a BIF, and kept the 2010. The problem arises in that I have never had KBS. I know the general consensus is that if you've never had something before, drink it fresh and age/cellar future acquisitions. Unfortunately I can't ever get a hold of "fresh" or current KBS. So, my only taste for it would be a 3 year-old bottle, if I drank it, with no baseline point of reference.

I look at it every night and want to drink it. But I think in the very least I should try to get a current year of it for a side-by-side, if not a small vertical.

    Thoughts?

Why aren't you trying to do a ISO/FT for this years? I've traded a few of the 2013 KBS already.

I see a lot of people are telling you to drink it, but personally I wouldn't listen to them. It's old, and probably lost all of the coffee notes. It's certainly nothing you'll find enjoyable anymore. I would just keep staring at it.

Eventually you won't even want it and could probably swap it out for a blowy in North Philly.

Where in Pa are you? I'm in SJ and regularly work on the main line. If you are anywhere close I could hook you up with a '13 kbs for something along the same lines in return

Although not from personal experience, I've heard the coffee falls off considerably and leaves somewhat of a stale taste after about 1.5-2 years. I usually have KBS for about 5 minutes before I drink it:slight_smile:

I just cracked some '09 that I traded for; its not the same as fresh (the coffee is mostly gone in the taste, but not in the smell) but all the same, it was fantastic and I would drink again. For the love of god, done hoard beer JUST DRINK IT!
