Haha. I wasn't very clear. I definitely agree with you. It is strange. I could've driven 10 minutes in any direction and found another price. I'm pretty sure WineStyles in West Des Moines was probably 8.49 or more like they usually are.

Not trying to be a dick but what's weird about different places have different markups/margins? I'm sure the cost from the distributor was the same all around.

I seriously doubt the cost is the same for everyone at the distributer level. I'm sure Hy-vee pays less than Benz, because of the volume they sell. It's called buying power.

I have always heard that Stone doesn't allow distributors to offer case discounts on their products to retailers.

Also, purchasing by Hy-Vee's is done on a store by store basis, so are they really ordering that much more than Benz? (I wouldn't know).

The law makes it that you have to offer the same discount to everyone. I.e. if you offer $2 off Rogue 6-pack cases when a retailer orders 5 or more then you have to do that for every retailer.

As someone who works at a beer store (Beertopia in Omaha) I was surprised to find you really don't have to order all that much to get the discounts (some of which are the same every month while other discounts come and go). Cheers!

Koch recalls his first meeting with a buyer for Safeway, North America’s second-largest supermarket chain, in 1998. The buyer was baffled when Koch said he wouldn’t be offering any promotional pricing in exchange for shelf space.
“When I left that meeting, I was pretty certain that we were s—t out of luck,” he said.
A few weeks later, a Safeway purchase order came across Koch’s desk, no doubt a nod to his steadfast refusal to play the price war.
“We’ve had a lot of pressure to price discount over the years and we never have,” Koch said. “Our job isn’t to discount, but to make sure that our beer is worth the price from a consumer and retailer perspective.”

Anyone have knowledge of how many varieties of Deschutes we will likely see in Iowa? Glad that I was finally able to find Fresh Squeezed, but I was looking through their other seasonal and special bottlings and they looked very tasty. Thanks!

They did a dopplebock in scotch barrels. I've sampled it, once at the Brewfest in DSM on the Locust Bridge and once at the brewery. It's fantastic.

I picked up several Enjoy Bys from Chicago over the weekend. If anyone in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area missed out and wants one, we can trade.

Did the IC/CR area sell out of Enjoy By? I haven't really noticed.

Sorry, I assumed there was none left in the area, based on the limited quantities I think the area gets, and that I didnt see any left on Sunday at the normal places that I shop.

Parlor City in Cedar Rapids is having a Stone tap takeover Friday. Nothing too special except for the Templeton Rye Barrel aged IRS. I hope this beer is as great as I imagine it to be. Red's in North Liberty is tapping a keg soon, too.
