I bought my wife her own pitcher. She finished her's faster than I did I am ashamed to admit but then, I was the driver so I had to pace myself. Somewhat.

While we're on the subject, can anyone confirm that Ayinger's Kirta Halbe is the same beer as their Oktoberfest? They're listed separately here, but the ABV is the same and the Oktoberfest is not listed on Ayinger's website. The website refers to the Kirta Halbe as "something between a Export Dunkel and a Märzen" (paraphrasing from memory).

    These are great.

Only real "lightening" I see is of Bierman's hair color.

    Prost!

Thanks for those! That's awesome that you go every year. The only thing I noticed was that you have a thing for Spaten Oktoberfest. Kind of hard to tell in some of the pictures, but nothing strikes me as dark amber.

I liked the maltiness in Spaten in the "early" years, but have grown fonder of the HB and Augustiner lately... will have to try and dig out close-up pics of the biers themselves....

    Prosit!!

Nah -- You can really see the beer color get progressively lighter, thanks Bierman!

"Kirta" is Bavarian dialect for "Kirchweih" which would be the anniversary of the sanctification of the village church. In heavily catholic Bayern a major holiday and yet another reason for a 2 or 3 day fest. So your "Kirta Halbe" would most certainly be a "Festbier" just by context.

Quick question--kind of off track with all the pics and the whole Marzen vs. Wiesn issue:

Around here, the new local O-fest beers are coming in, but all the Germans are from last year. They are not being deceptive about it, but that's all that's on the shelves right now (soon to change, I would hope). Still, in general, how long would you consider to be 1) shelf-life of a decent O-fest; 2) cellaring possibilities at home, where conditions may be more controlled (or, at least, better known)?

It's "drink it fresh or not at all beer" for me, so I'd say use it up w/in 2-3 mos. and no cellering beyond, regardless of where brewed.
